IRONMAN Hamburg - Rumble in the M45 Jungle

Just a few big weeks catching up with me, and of course life in general, hardly in the fast lane but…, although I do prioritise sleep, but sometimes training harder reduces the quality of sleep.

Oddly, I felt worse doing the 8k run this morning that the longer run this evening.

Nothing a few easy days won’t sort out, but with a 100M TT on Sunday it’s not just yet.

I suspect a 25-30 minute run gives a fairly significant advantage on the bike leg for last year, also some very big packs probably, unless they went off in groups?

Jeff

I should imagine a combination of fresher bodies and pack riding. The contrast between 2017 & 18 splits is large

Water 18.7 today :ok_hand: algae readings still dropping. Although 3 weeks is still some time :crossed_fingers:

I’m wondering if they did some work to reduce algae with it being the ITU festival this weekend.

Jeff

Possibly. The weather has also been cool, cloudy & some rain. Let’s hope Ironman are also fully engaged with the Water Authority.

Let’s hope you stay on your bikes better than the ITU lit today!

The water is really cooling down at the moment!

That really is cool (suits me). All limbs crossed.

That’s actually getting too cold for me, my body doesn’t like cold water :frowning:

Jeff

Water is down to 16.8

However, the long-range forecast is currently showing race week to be hotting-up  we’ll see.

Sneaky! The Bib Numbers are now on the start list…

Lol, good luck finding your bike somewhere at the far end of transition :grimacing:

Prime transition spots for Matt and Jeff

…especially as I intend on being out of the water ahead of >2000 thousand people

It’s pot luck with the racking though isn’t it, you could be at the ‘right’ end of a rack with any number.

What’s AWA?

All World Athlete - frequent flyer programme that accumulates points :upside_down_face:

Although to be fair, to be Gold you have to be mustard! Like Hywel/Paul Lunn standard in our AG.

I think you can also get gold AWA by just doing more races, as you say it’s just a frequent flyer thing and you get a keyring and sticker!

But I think there’s essentially no limit to the races you can do to get points so if I’d done another couple of their races I’d also get the chance to have a gold. Obviously the higher up in a race the more points you get and a full is worth up to 5000 I think, 70.3 is up to 3000.

I did a full and a half last year with a top 30 and top 15 I think.

Jeff

Last, and only really long run done today, added up to about 32k over the moors, it was hard work on tired legs and although bone dry a lot of the track has gone very sandy and soft.

Also had a short swim in the river after which definitely helped ease the legs off a bit, and a massage tomorrow

Edging towards taper time!

Points only count from three races at most however

Yes, that was my understanding, hence why normally to be Gold you have to be very quick.
