Oh the NIMBY’s will have their way. My RD mate put on an ultra trail run event this weekend. There were <50 people over 110 mile route, staggered starts over two moors etc - so proper low key.
Friday evening he gets a call from some guy, immediately with serious attitude in his voice:
NIIMBY “Are you putting on an event this weekend”
RD (guarded) “Yes we are, can I help in any way?”
NIMBY “Well you’re not taking COVID very seriously. I’ve just seen your staff and they ARE NOT acting in a COVID compliant manner (really huffy)”
RD “Ok. Erm, where did you see this, because my event doesn’t start until 0700 tomorrow morning!”
NIMBY “I’m in Bideford, and they’re here in X location right now”
RD “hmm ok. We don’t pass anywhere near Bideford mate”
NIMBY (not apologetic in any way or form) “Oh. Must be someone else then.”
RD “yeah, I guess so”
We looked it up and it was another small trail events company. Little event. Likely to have been minimal impact. Plus how does this guy know that the volunteers at that aid station aren’t all in a family unit for example. Yet he felt compelled to go hunting online, find an event that has a presence in the north of the county (our event finished in Somerset not Devon anyway!!) then ring the RD up and try to have a massive moan!
Nah mate.
Covid is defeated.
Gone.
June 21st and THEY WILL BE DANCING ON THE CEILING.
It was the Irish government and LEAs who didn’t want. Bloody Euro’s.
Now we’re back in control of our own borders, we can put any race on we damn well please without Merkel and Barnier telling us what to do.
I’m feeling nice and ready!
Already done 3 centuries or 5 five hour rides.
2:15 run this week felt easy.
Swimming is ace.
Reckon I could do it next week.
Next three weeks are the icing on the cake.
Kicking off on IMJ
What with the “do not travel to Bolton” advice.
I mean, that’s been pretty sound advice since time began
Will the race be cancelled?
We don’t know!
Just keep training and forget about it.
Nowt we can do but that
However…that does give me a good excuse not to go up (again!) and do three loops on Sunday.
Gonna blast out a local flat 162km instead
‘Cos that’s totally relevant to training for IMUK :- 4hrs 45mins in the TT bars, with 100m elevation total
It’s still pushing the pedals for a long distance on the same bike, with similar fuel etc, unless you feel you don’t know the loop well enough not sure what you’d stand to gain / lose?
8-10 of us doing a double loop on sat morning, and the flash bit too.
