Ironman UK 2021

Power of the crowd hit him late I think.

What could slow the swim generally? I mean it’s a boring old lake - sorry flash - so I can only think of visibility if everyone got lost…!

Fingers crossed

Laidlow still smashing everyone else on the bike, he’s dropped Don for 2 mins now at 102km

Not sure on the slow swims, 5 pros went under 50 which seems normal. But then the AG field is super slow - Tom Rigby apparently 10th overall with 61 minutes Which is a normal swim time for him but definitely shouldn’t put him 10th.

Wonder if it’s more the results playing up, or something to do with how the covid starts affect timings (Tom would be AWA).

Bowden and Skipper 15/16mins back now - not good sign at alll for them.

Did someone say Davies lost his chip and is still in the game?

Chucking it down in Warrington now. Bike could be fun.

I’d expect Marc Laithwaite to be faster than 61 out of the water as well.

Poet faster than my club mate over the last split, so definitely looking more normal now. Just a shame he lost nearly 20mins in that first section

Poet through 74km a touch slower than previous section, but similar to Sid.
They seem to have revised the speeds since I last checked?

TC going well too, matching Poet’s average speed in the 51km section.

78km time check has gone a bit haywire showing 90+ kph for some and nothing for others!

We just had a torrential down in London too, I’m hiding from my long run.

Wish I was on the IMUK bike course instead. Maybe relay entries are the way forward.

Bowden has lost three minutes and Skipper has passed him

Weird how swim times seem to have been slow at Lanza and Bolton. I wonder is this due to a lack of swimming due to covid? Pools haven’t been open for that long really and even then, (certainly where I am anyway) you can only book a 45 minute slot, which in reality only gets you about 40 minutes in the water. Not ideal…

I’ve got 3 different Mdot races to track today. UK and 70.3’s in Les Sables and Andorra. :flushed:

Yeah but Poet was smashing out some great lake times recently - was making me jealous

they were starting the swims off in groups of three because of social distancing. The pros had done the first lap before some people even got in the water! pouring down now but still pretty warm. Roads are slippy.

Not sure why, but my club mate is now DNF. Hoping he hasn’t had anything nasty happen

Sid still holding 4th (AG) place at 128km, but the 5th place guy (Chippenham Tri) is only 2 mins back
Poet through 102km, looked a bit slower (relatively to Sid), but could be due to rain I guess.

Looks like Skipper is making some inroads back to the leaders, grabbed a couple of mins back at the 152km mark.

Just found out a lad from my club was supposed to be doing it today (having deferred from last year) but got pinged on Thursday and has to self isolate.
Gutted for him.

Any idea on number of slots? The gap behind 5th is getting quite big now, so assuming no dramas on the run, you’d like to think that’s enough of a buffer to not drop beyond that. 1st in AG seems long gone, but 2nd to 5th are all within 11 or so minutes, which could get interesting

Tom Rigby still shifting

That’s the slot breakdown from 2019 but if you’re on the cusp it’s best not to rely on it as it can vary a little from year to year… 5th one year might do it, but might not the next year…
