I am absolutely knackered. 275w avg for 2h8m, significantly higher than any other MD race I have done

Amazing! :+1::+1:

Thanks @jaylen84 it’s good to have a go at a max out effort over 70.3 distance after training for 5 months. It’s still not the same as a real race… however I felt that my execution on the bike was near perfect for my ability, everything went right, pacing, fueling etc

My effort was 100% honest, if it is like this to qualify for Taupo, I wouldn’t worry about the event being devalued

It is like that for you, perhaps, but you are honest.

Unfortunately, others will cheat.

What was your heart rate? Do you think you could maintain that power outside? I once held 283w for a twisty undulating 50mile TT in 2:03 at 164bpm but I’m not sure I could have done it indoors…!

HR was pretty low at 152 (my MHR is 187). Would be interesting to see what I could achieve outside. Done over 300 for an hour outdoors recently, could I maintain it for over 2 hours?

From the IM VR site

“On Sunday, the professional men took to the trainers with IRONMAN VR2 Pro Challenge Champion Sam Long (USA) emerging victorious, completing the IRONMAN 70.3 Indian Wells-La Quinta 90 km bike course in a time of 1:55:28. IRONMAN VR4 Pro Challenge Champion Arnaud Guilloux (FRA), came in second with a time of 1:56:20, while IRONMAN VR3 Pro Challenge Champion Jesper Svensson (SWE), arrived in third finishing with a time of 2:04:36. Patrick Lange (DEU), IRONMAN VR1 Pro Challenge Champion, rounded out the group of professionals in fourth finishing with a time of 02:11:36. Featured guest competitor Matt Wikstrom (USA) grabbed the final spot with a time of 2:12:05”

I finished in 2:08 ahead of Patrick Lange and Matt Wikstrom, and just behind Jesper Svensson. Pretty happy to be mixing with the Pro’s on the bike

You mean like this one Ramon Costa

Fastest bike split yesterday in 1h55m, crap runner, and in all other IM VR races his bike results are mediocre. He beat all the Pros.

Overall he was 5th in AG, and I was 6th

what stands out there, apart from the bike which could be genuine screw up of calibration, is he only did a 25min 5k fresh on Friday but a 1:41 half off the bike, a faster k pace!

Personally i just can’t see how tihs venture can have any amount of credibilty in qualifying for real races. What’s to stop people getting their quick runner mate to do the runs, even if they were a super cyclist for example. As long as you weren’t super slow to begin with so your results trend doesn’t spike too crazily. Even having someone of a similar ability, but running fresh would likely yield some tasty benefit, whilst not looking too outrageous.

Unfortunately it has been proven time and time again that lots of people really have no morals when it comes to cheating, meaning the likes of @Matthew_Spooner who’s having the season of his life will get screwed.

This is @Matthew_Spooner build year. Next year is when be breaks through as a proto-pro and then smashes Kona late season 2021.

That’s low. What was it by the end?

should ask for his autograph now…!

So it’s a short list of approved Home Trainers, all of them ‘premium’. Even if you are prepared to fork-out, they have to be in stock!

I appreciate what Ironman are trying to do, keep people engaged with the brand and maintain some kind of business continuity… but really…

What are Mr Costa’s real life results like?

Mwahahahahahahahahaha

Are IM vetting these guys?

Sorry too old to make it as a pro… I will have to settle for an Uber AG cyclist, a decent runner, and have fun coming from MOP after a mediocre swim. Get to Kona (once) and finish in decent position would be enough

What?! He’s had 6 years to become the beast that he is …

Exactly - on that rate of improvement he’d be looking to go sub-8 at IM Brazil this year
