Ironman Virtual Racing

Hmm, yes this is my problem with the apparent obsession with testing at the moment - intelligence needs to be actionable to be useful.

Anyway, way off topic now - Ill leave it! :grinning:

They’re starting a study at my wife’s hospital at the mo around testing anyone who works between wards.

She was picked for the trial so got to have her test yesterday. Her reports were far from positive! :joy: I think she said something along the lines of being convinced that the nurse was going to punch the swab right into her prefrontal cortex at one point! :man_facepalming:t3:

It’s a lot more than that, as its been conceptually pushed back to early 2021, and from what I’m hearing more likely 2022 or later (as the normally timed 2021 contract has already been separately awarded)

A pretty big ask to ā€œraceā€ flat out 3-4 times in the space of 3 weeks…

Blimey.

You only get points in the top 50 per gender/AG, so I can relax!

No outdoor rides was half expected, gotta be Rouvy, and a very limited number of trainers…including mine.

Complete within 12h…so run, bike, sleep, run?

Which of these turbos is the most basic and cheapest? Just out of interest…!

The original flux by a long way. That was available for c£400 at points. Everything else is/was pretty expensive.

Not looked in a while but availability at the start of lockdown would be an issue!

I got the Zumo under £400 just before christmas

Sorry, missed that. Assumed the Elite trainers were in order of expense. And when they’d not included the Direto and Direto 2, which both include their own power meters, it seems pretty strange to then include the Suito and Zumo! Same with the original Drivo which was up near Ā£1k a few years ago. Makes me wonder if older Kickrs are out too?

But yes, Zumo was available at the start of the covid situation for pretty cheap. I know a few who picked one up.

Perhaps odd that powermeters (alone) are excluded? No mention of power matching type features.

Perhaps thats to make sure you are getting the smart trainer experience of changing resistance?

Yeah, that was the only reason I could come up with.

Fair enough, I’m not fully following story I’ll admit.

But it must be meant for Taupo start 2021 champs. If they were going to cancel taupo 2020 and move to 2022 surely they could have normal qualifying throughout 2021.
Unless there’s plans for there to be some online qualification long term even once real racing begins…

I do wonder this too. From what I read, they’re only allocating points to the top 50 in each AG for each race, and then it seemed to say that the top 3 in each AG based on cumulative points might get offered a slot. That’s not very many, and easily something they could do in the future as well

4:16 is winning rhe Challenger division so far, the rest of the top ten looks pretty similar. 19min 5k, 2h30 bike, 1h30somerhing run.

:sob::drooling_face:

Kickr 1 notoriously over reads power. The racers choice

OK, Just finished my first IM VR in 4h 1m 56s I was 11th overall

On Bike I came 7th… one place ahead of Patrik Lange

My runs weren’t too bad considering that I haven’t done any fast runs or runs over 12km for the past 2 months

My 5km time was 21:02 and my HM time was 1:32:50. At least 5 mins could come off the run with some training and no injury
