Ironman Wales 2022

Speaking to a lad from Bolton at the swim tonight.

I was saying how great the town looked and that I was loving all the razzmatazz, etc.

He said the town is proper buzzin’ for it and everyone is really looking forward to it.

But like above, Bolton needs it.
Tenby doesn’t.

Fingers crossed for y’all :crossed_fingers:t3:

Yeah I’ve got some serious FOMO.

You’re going to have a cracking weekend :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

does that make me the last one here to do a UK Ironman (as I’m sure I would have been out on the course the longest) I can find positivity in anything

I feel like this announcement of a further 5 years at Tenby is the good news. Tomorrow will be the bad news of, yeah just not this year

That’s become a pretty well known rock.

When you look at North Beach, the natural amphitheatre, usually sheltered from prevailing winds and setting it always baffles me that they originally designed the race to run off South Beach.

On off on

Nothing like clarity!!
This aligns with other reports of no crowds etc.

Yeah I figured it would be a stripped down event if going ahead

There are some courses that I’d do regardless of crowd size but Tenby isn’t one of them. The crowd IS the race at Tenby!

I know we’re all different, but crowds do nothing for me. Apart from having my wife there I’d like to be in a race vacuum.

I like both. I was genuinley surprised at how much i loved the buzz and atmosphere at London mara a few years back when i did it. Thought i’d be a one and done, but actually i’d probably go back one day and try to do it justice.

At the same time i love the solace of the long ultras i do where i barely see another competitor letalone anyone watching. Something primal about it being just you, the course and the elements.

Yep, that’s pretty much me. I can live in either world but IMO, Tenby is on another level.

I went away & thought a bit about what I said.

I kind of like crowds, but I remember walking for the best part of an hour at Tenby & all support & best intended advice just wound me up.

Admittedly I wasn’t in my finest frame of mind at the time

I do remember in 2017, I was on my 2nd or 3rd lap of the run in town and a drunken wanker high fived me so hard I went backwards. His mates gave him shit over it. Could’ve done without that but I’d rather he was out there than wasn’t.

Tenby will be like Scotland fans when they play England at Wembley: no matter what the rules, banned etc, they’ll be out there supporting….
