Agreed, and I’d much rather a hotel than a campervan, and would happily pay that sort of rate for that privilege!
Anyway, been out for a nice meal with Mrs FP and told her what I’d booked. She is totally cool with it, more concerned about how my body will cope.
Having said that, I will give it some serious thought whether to proceed or not. It is a large chunk of cash and with the CoL, the work needed on my teeth and gums still and the fact that I’d like to get another moto, I need to weigh up my selfishness against the FOMO next year. I’m already committed for quite a few hotel nights for recces and ultra races.
@fatpom
Sorry, was referring to what @adam said and aye, it’s £120, not £140 ![]()
I’m just taking the mick about campervans rocking up anywhere and pitching up and paying zero regard to any restrictions or business.
“No cars on the sea wall” = well, I’m not a car, I’m a van, so I’ll drive down there and park up ![]()

I’ve never been to Tenby either ![]()
When I raced New Forest, stayed in a static caravan and loved it, doubt you’d get one of them for <£1k in Tenby for race weekend like ![]()

I thought you’d done the race? Maybe I’m mixing up with Outlaw? I know most folks scoff at UK races but it really is something else at Tenby but it’s very small town with a shit load of people there for that weekend.
I bet you could find one in say Lamphey though which would mean an early drive in on race morning.
When I did it in 2017 we stayed in a really nice converted barn on a farm in Narberth. Was a pain in the arse for my Mrs though with a three month old. For some reason she decided to walk to transition with me, I guess she got caught in the buzz of it all. Anyway, she jumped into a port a loo, then at the same time my son then soiled himself. I then changed him on the roadside at something silly like 5am. This weird memory all came flooding back when I went to rack my bike this year. Wifey then decided to watch the swim then got stuck in Tenby with the roadblocks trying to get back. Took her something like 2.5 hrs to get back to the barn.
I joke about the Imperial being a dive of a hotel, but bugger it. I’d stay here again next year just for the sheer convenience
Not me ![]()
DNFd Bolton, loved it. Support was immense ![]()
Hopefully I’ll be be heading up solo. But as mentioned before, I’ll be kipping for free with family. If I can’t get in with my cousin in Tenby, I’ve 2 aunts with spare rooms in Pembroke, or even mum or dad are only 50 mins away. Though that would be aast resort.
So I’m offsetting the crazy cost of an (actual) IM, with the fact I can get accommodation (and probably food!) for free. ![]()

That’s an utter bonus ![]()
Joke or not your not pitching a campervan in Tenby central on IM weekend.
The best way imo is to house share, we’ve stopped twice near the train station, lovely big houses fully kitted, SKY sports ect. Unload your gear then park at the 24hr multistorey. If TTers could club together this would be your best Tenby experience. Option for a stayover (7 days) and probably about same price for 2 nights at a scruffy hotel when you divvy up the cost.
We’ve also stopped twice at Penally which was nice but a different experience, little hike into Tenby but good parking and a bit cheaper.
I’d only do that if Poet comes, for no other reason to see him faint at my wardrobe organisation skills ![]()
This is going to become the must watch TT thread of 23 I reckon.

Is it too early for finish time predictions? SOP is to calculate the time you think you’ll finish in then add 90 minutes to 2 hours ![]()

Won’t be there personally, but will definitely enjoy watching this thread ![]()
I know. Even though I’m not going Long again for years now, it’s mighty tempting!
Well i did 11.50 in 2013 as a noob.
So I’d like to take an hour off that.
I’ve had a bit of FOMO but then remember how much accommodation costs and when I leave the house on a morning realise how cold it is and think, nah ![]()
Translates to:
80th place overall
20th in AG
KQ roll down ![]()
Don’t worry it’ll be cheaper for the actual dates you book ![]()

Haha. Maybe I’ll just aim to take half an hour off then. I just need to stay fit and uninjured.
Tenby has proved to be a bit of a jinx for me so primary goal is just to finish. But it’s been 3 years since I’ve done long distance and I haven’t done any serious sbr training this year apart from just ticking over so I don’t know current capabilities. Actually, I was looking back through this years activities and my sbr is at the lowest for years but weekly average for mountain activities is 110km with 7000m vert mostly with a backpack weighing between 7-13kg so there’s good base fitness in there somewhere. But I realise I’ve entered the wrong race, I should be calling Ken and joining @Jorgan!
Sub 12 would be nice. Sub 14 likely*. Much depends upon how much consistency I can achieve in training.
As the accommodation has been booked race prep has begun. Currently injured and unable train. Objective 1, stay injury free, missed ![]()
(*90/120 minute sandbagging excluded)
I haven’t done a tri since IMW 2018 and I went 14.26.
If I can can get remotely close to 15hrs using the Focus, i will be very happy
Is that a gravel bike FP?
