Nike Zoom Fly/Vaporfly 4 and NEXT% - The Thread

Surely it’s about scale as well. It is highly unlikely to be a directly proportional relationship between the additional freshness of wearing the shoes and the reduced training effect on account of the shoes’ properties. No?

Which is what Nike are saying, isn’t it?
That the shoes gives you a measurable improvement in your performance.

Like @jgav says, train in a heavier, slower shoe, then do other stuff in the better ones.
Presently, I’m doing slower runs in the Peg36 Shields (now that it’s wet) as the grip on the sole is great on the damp leaves.
I might wear my Wildhorse or Salomon’s this afternoon for an off road 75 minutes.
Generally, speedwork is done in my Zoom Fly SP Fast or old 4%.

I’d like a pair of Next% for long runs, but need to wait to get the custom ones with the 4% upper, as I really didn’t get on with the tongue.

This is largely what I’ve been doing. Most of my ‘training’ runs are done in Zoom Fly Flyknits or Pegs and racing in 4%

too wet for those badgers now fella!
I have some awesome bridlepaths and country fields behind me, so like to get off the tarmac and have a good old meander through the fields and tracks, bloody lovely at the minute :fallen_leaf: :maple_leaf: :leaves:

Fair. They are terrible in the wet

I’ve actually been super impressed with that pair of Terra Kiger 6s i bought. They’ve been great on all the (limited) off road stuff I’ve done

Looks like Nike have released an updated version of the Pegasus Trail 2’s, the Trail 2 GTX with goretex upper.

I don’t really like a waterproof upper, water gets in over the top and you then have a very wet and heavy pair of clogs. It’s inevitable on most trails that water will get in so a decent pair of socks and keep moving and my feet keep dry.

Longest run on the Alphas at 11km this morning.
Got a blister EXACTLY where I thought I might :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

That’d rip my skin off over a marathon.
It’d be just about bearable for a half.

FFS

I was ok in the Alphas but tried the Tempos again yesterday and they took the skin off the underneath of my left big toe so they are going back for sure.

Here’s one for @GRamsay

Right on the instep after 11km.
Absolutely gutted as these shoes are super comfy otherwise for me.
However, after my initial 5km TT in them I knew they’d rub here.
Today confirmed it.

This is a “soft spot” for me. And if the shoes aren’t Bob on, this happens.
I am an absolute Goldilocks/Princess and the Pea :see_no_evil::rofl:

Stop sending me this shit

How do you find the Peg Shield?
I get a blister in a similar place to what you show from wearing those.

Ace. Absolutely brilliant.
Although the Peg Turbos I find awful

4% brilliant.
I don’t think I’ve worn a comfier running shoe
I’d also put the Zoom Fly Flyknits in this category.
I do want another pair of both, but am holding out for the By You Next % again.

Next% - didn’t get on with the tongue.
Not wide enough for my feet.
I could also feel a little “lip” at the end.
I really want to like these, might give them another go.

Wildhorse - mint. Super comfy, but not actually great at off road, which is what they’re billed as.
They’re far too slippy on wet stuff.
Overpriced at RRP.

Peg 36 - Great. Solid training shoe. But overpriced.
I’d also put Zoom Structure in this category.

Peg Turbos - Awful. Just slid off my foot all of the time.

AlphaFlys - Super fast and feel great, just give me a massive blister.

have you tried just vaseline it to reduce friction. Might be enough to get away with it. Alternatively you could pre-plaster it since they are race shoes anyway you won’t need to many of the compede blister plasters?

I’ve tried the latter in the past…the plaster/compeed came off, wiggled under my sock and gave a blister in another place; as well as where I’d usually get one.

Never thought about Vaseline or Bodyglide.
But, for £260, I’m not wanting massive blisters.

I’ve a pair of 4% with one (albeit utterly filthy) marathon and the pre-race day jog on them.
So sticking with them for now.

There is (was) an Elite product called; No Sweat For Feet - very effective (as was their post run cream…)

Since we’re talking blisters, got this one on my 36km run in Alphafly

Not had a blister here before. Other than that all the usual blister locations were perfect

Another nail gone… 2 this month.

that’s disgusting.
WTF are those nails about :face_vomiting::see_no_evil:

I’ve had blisters like that before, but it’s from when I wear a UK11 with thicker socks, as my finger toe smashes against the toe box.

@GRamsay :wink:
