Nike Zoom Fly/Vaporfly 4 and NEXT% - The Thread

I think they need to be replaced by the manufacturer…

That’s just the outer layer covering the foam :+1:t3:
Absolutely fine.

They don’t make them anymore (best super shoe IMO)

Seconded!

Yeah they’re great :tiger: I can only compare to some next alphafly, good for half and marathon but otherwise too bulky!

Let’s play a game
Here’s the soles of my new ZF5s

How many miles/kms before I wear that through to the mid sole

I’m gonna say 80 miles / 130km

200k.

How does 5 compare to 4 or 3?

Well, the results are in, the AlphaFly 2 isn’t as economical as the original*. Time to start stocking up!

Missed this sorry.

Feels “plusher” around your foot.
As for underfoot, it feels ok

If anyone has a birthday code going spare (and it works on Vapor’s!) I like the new colour ways

It’s not a code, it gets automatically applied to your account. Best thing to do would be to create another account, perhaps using your middle name or something whistle

That’s said, all the VF seem to have a comment that they are excluded from promos and discounts.

My missus didnt get one (August). Apparently you have to have been a member a year and have logged in multiple times in the last year to ‘win’ a code. Having said that made no difference as the code didnt work against the Vaporfly anyway

Don’t think I got one this year, probably don’t log on or order enough.

There’s a sports shop here with Pegasus trail 3’s at 99 euros, they’ve got react foam and feel quite a bit lighter. Might pull the trigger if they have my size, really like them.

Thinking of doing my own little treadmill experiment to compare the vapor, alpha and alpha 2. I think im going to do a treadmill test and initially I was going to go with 6x 10:00 at 10 mph and measuring HR and RPE but then I thought maybe I should do 9x 6:00-7:00 on the basis that I could do some different rotations to reduce impact of previous shoes. Thoughts are:

10:00 intervals:
+longer intervals gives more time for HR to stabilise
-interactions may be worse though I could maybe go a-b-c-c-b-a to simplify?

7:00 intervals:
+interactions can be significantly reduced as can do a-b-c-a-c-b-c-b-a
-more shoe changes
-shorter intervals slightly less indicative?

I don’t have easy access to a treadmill (and hopefully a calibrated one as opposed to a random gym one) so ideally want a one shot and done.

Any thoughts/tips?

I think that @joex published a link to a podcast where a scientific study was conducted on super shoes. Good listen!

Trying to justify it myself

We’ve needed a new mattress for years, but…what’s a few more?

Sub-5:30 written all over them @joex :grinning:
