Nike Zoom Fly/Vaporfly 4 and NEXT% - The Thread

But it feels so damn nice

@APM - did you get any Peg40? They’ve got some on sale for Ā£84 today … I’m tempted.

I ended up going for the Peg Turbo at £87 :white_check_mark:

@Poet, I did see the sale.

What’s the difference between the regular version and ā€œturboā€?

No idea :person_shrugging:t3:

But I know a Porsche Taycan 4S TURBO is better than just a Taycan 4S, plus more expensive; therefore better :joy:

But in seriousness, Turbo have ZoomX and not React foam (like the 40) :white_check_mark:

Also the Turbo I bought are FlyKnit and 50% recycled. FlyKnit is comfyAF and I’d like to appease Greta for Jeffrey and Fruity’s habits

We all need to do our bit to offset that high-flyer.

Interesting, I’ll get reading.

I don’t have any kids :man_shrugging: :joy:

Interested what you think, reviews are not particularly positive saying that the recycled foam is a poor imitation of the new stuff.

Ah that’s why you don’t care

Well … I didn’t like my last pair of Peg Turbos.
Rubbed my Achilles raw, and just couldn’t get them to lace properly (like never got them to fit)

So I sent them back :person_shrugging:t3:

They’re just going to be a daily shoe …

…although I’ve a barely used pair (31km) of ā€œWeathershieldā€ 37s that’ll probably start getting used now :roll_eyes::joy:

It’s because of what someone said above; that their soles are not worn, but they’re starting to get niggles. My Peg 36/37 look nearly new at 550km, but just changing them out for these :white_check_mark::boom::boxing_glove:

FWIW: My VF FlyKnit wore through to the carbon plate after 220km, although my 4% are still going strong at 500km :clap:t3:

ALSO…

Adjusting mindset, and for recent inflation, an £87 pair of trainers now is like a £70 pair from pre-Covid. And a £70 pair of ASICS back then were utterly shite. So am I reviewing them with that in mind?

Does anyone have experience of the Free Run?

I don’t plan on running, or even training with them. More a decent pair of shoes to walk in.

Peg Trail 3 are awesome for walking.
Juniper Trail also good.
Wildhorse crap (wore out after about three months)

Great for plenty of runners, just not for you.

What kind of walking?

Normal walking - Milers
Normal walking in parks - Trail are cheap at sports direct
Freaky walking all day in shitty mud and crap in the pissing rain because the waiting list for the psyche ward is too long - Wildhorse

Last week I dusted off my VF4% Flyknits; last used on 29 July 2019. 6k run before I drove up t’ Lancs.

I must say, I prefer them over the Tempo NEXT%; much less squishy and unstable. They felt light & responsive. Nice. That’s a whole 90km done in them now!

@Poet, how are the new Pegs?

Erm … I thought of you this morning and I’m giving it a few more runs :joy:

I’ve got the Peg Turbo Next Nature SE

They feel HARD!
Like the Next% on the forefoot.
FlyKnit is also hard.

Odd as fook toe box splitter thing too.

They’re also narrow.

The end.

The reviews said they don’t have much ā€˜give’.

That said, my current normal Pegs took a few runs to become comfortable.

First run in Vaporfly 3

I quite liked them, less bouncy than Alphafly.

7.5km easy run before parkrun (4:45/km pace), then a 19:44 parkrun

Running at 4:45 pace, they didn’t feel great, I really like the spring in the Alphafly that comes in at a slower pace, however, when I did Parkrun they felt really good at 4:00/km pace, maybe I am in good shape this morning, but they feel 5s/km faster when pushing

So question is: Lucerne Marathon, do I go with Vaporfly and hope my form stays good, or do I go with the Alphafly, maybe loose a bit early on, but have a shoe that is responsive when my form is getting worse?

Anyone else with similar experience with Vaporfly and Alphafly?

The Vaporfly v3 feel like a traditional race shoe and sits somewhere in between the VF2 and AF2, the reviews do highlights the fact that later on in the marathon it could be more forgiving due to the plush zoomx. I like the Alphafly v2 as it feels plush no matter what pace but stack isn’t the best on twisty courses.
Experience wise I have only raced in the VF3 over 5km when I wasn’t fit.

Yeah, I’ll give them 50km to break in, so I’ll report back sometime in 2024 :joy:
