Nike Zoom Fly/Vaporfly 4 and NEXT% - The Thread

Blimey where did you find that out from?

I emailed them about it, because I was concerned about the environmental impact I’ve been causing :see_no_evil::speak_no_evil:

You must have helped create a few courts just on your returns then @Poet

They’re all in these hipster communal markets and Grand Designs/Amazing Spaces homes as “trendy” flooring

I wonder how many trainers get returned in a year.
You would think it better to sell the good condition returns?

or at least give them away to charity/projects somewhere.

Yes, but given the amount of US litigation, it would only take one case where a returned shoe caused an injury

Fair point, the world is a mad place :upside_down_face:

So I did my first real run in the ZF’s today, not really impressed, the plate seems very narrow and it feels like you’re falling off when you need to turn a corner or similar. My knees hurt - well not hurt but had a sort of annoying ache, that’s probably related to the higher drop than normal.

Dunno how much the zoom fly’s are supposed to improve performance, but I certainly didn’t see much, last three runs on the identical route, time of day etc. (I do leatherhead to dorking every Saturday morning outside of school holidays) were:

13.59 4:07 min/km 153bpm ZF with ~10km on them
13.54 4:16 min/km 144bpm Kinvara with ~2000km on them

Normally new shoes give me a speed boost (although often with an increase in HR to match as the shoes encourage me to run faster) however whilst it was faster than last week, it wasn’t much, when the Kinvara’s were new last year

13.32 3:55 min/km 156bpm Kinvara with ~ 400km on them

Almost a year apart difficult, so difficult to compare fitness, mileage was less than this year, but I had not long been back from Canada where I ran quite a bit including some hard efforts which I don’t normally do - I ran 18:37 without working really hard parkrun recently (probably in shape for 18:20 or so with the extra effort, or 18:00 really, really going for it and managing to not blow up) and that is actually faster than I managed last year.

So after the first run, carbon plate doesn’t do much for me, so not yet ready to waste the cash on the fast shoes (not that I do any racing anyway)

My mate’s 4% have basically split apart on the sole after about 100K, he’s complained to Nike and hoping for a new pair. I don’t expect them to last long but the photo he sent shows they are totally ruined.

Jeff

I don’t find the ZFs “fast”. They’re just really comfy with the flyknit upper. It’s only the 4% that I’ve found give a pace boost.

If you find the ZF unstable, then definitely don’t try the 4%!!

I didn’t even find them that comfy - part of the reason for getting them - the knit merrel barefoot accesses are miles more comfortable a “knit”, but I don’t find them cushioned enough for running all the time and they’re heavy for running fast - they are my every day shoe though.

I thought the plate was the same on the 4% and ZF? as it was absolutely falling off the plate that made them feel weird!

It is, but combined with the softness of the zoomX foam, which is only in the vaporfly, is what manifests increased rear foot instability

I thought the ZFs were fairly comfy for a lightweight trainer, significantly better than the 4%'s, but when you go faster the 4% work a lot better.

Jeff

I only take the ZFs when working away.
Wear them to catch the train, walk about, run to the gym, spin bike and jog in.
They’re super comfy, but…

…they are massively prone to the build up of static, causing electric shocks.

Wore my Next %s today…just shy of 5k, but on a gravel, slightly muddy and slippery in the rain course…19:25 which is about 2 mins faster than I would have expected…as well as having the energy to put in a 30:00 19k bike and a 10:38 2.5 k run (not in the Next%s)

Got an email about Zoomx vaporfly next% today, is this a new iteration or just marketing? Their naming schemes are very confusing.

Also got a 15% code from sportsshoes.com which expires tonight, although I’m sure another will appear soon.

If they are new I eagerly await feedback from Poet, preferably before Manchester half in 2 weeks :joy:

i did notice an awful lot of pink/orange and green shoes in the transition of the Super League racing over the weekend!

One of the few people not wearing them, owing to his Adidas tie up, was JB. And he was one of the first to be eliminated! haha

Yeah, the pink ones are new and “coming soon”. I’ve not had an email annoyingly, which maybe means I wont be able to buy.

EDIT - I see sportshoes are already stocking the pink ones

Are you going to be using that discount code Jeff?! If not and it’s not account specific, I would be interested! The Nike website doesnt have my size at the mo…!

I really don’t know what’s up with Blummenfelt and his feet. He seems to rip them to shreds after almost every race, it’s pretty horrible

@stenard the code is for sports shoes.com not Nike themselves which is possibly why you haven’t received an email.

The code does say your unique voucher, I probably won’t be using it but I suspect it’s not transferable, I can send it if you want to try though.
