Fuck it. Just tap out a steady/slow mara tomorrow!
Got a week to do itâŚbut only meant to be doing 27km next week
Remember guys, it says âa chanceâ
Too late.
Iâm in too deep now
âA chanceâ means you get an invitational email to purchase them early.
Theyâre sold on a first come, first served basis; in a limited range of sizes.
Iâm hoping UK11.5 is one of those
Well I went for a run in mine be earlier. Probably not a fair comparison to my last run here in Plymouth. Iâm carrying a lot of added fatigue in my legs now, not least from this last week. My HRM was all over the pace too, and my Dad made a particularly silly G&T last thing last night, so Iâm maybe a tad jaded.
I was way slower than the same run 2 months ago (4:39/km vs 4:55) and that time I ran in knackered >1 year old Zoom Flys. But todayâs run brings me to 60km running in last week if I include last Sundayâs HIM. Thatâs a shed load for me and legs were feeling heavy for the last few Kms.
Bearing this very poor comparison in mind, I decided to focus on how they felt. Tbh I just thought they felt squishy, rather than responsive like my Zoom Flys.
All in all not really sure what to think. But thereâs no Eureka moment for me and feeling a bit grumpy (just blame training fatigue & the drink). I really need to just lock them away now for Hamburg too. I mean, they have 19km on them now!
What app is that? Nike running club?
Edited - found it. Awful app, itâs crashed my phone 3 times, and not picked up all my runs syncing with my Garmin profile!
Itâs missing two of my runsâŚwhich I just exported from Garmin, deleted, then imported back.
BOOM!!!
WHERE IS MY EMAILâŚWHERE IS MY EMAILâŚWHERE IS MY EMAIL
My lace set up. Bit more at top where itâs needed, to stop heel slip. Seemed comfortable for the 66 mins I was out yesterday.
(Pic here when it will upload)
That looks weird. Are you not worried the upper might get pulled apart ?
I couldnt work out how to get them on quick enough so wore my old Asics Tarther for the local sprint yesterday⌠net result was I âwonâ T2 and got 2nd fastest run split. Sadly, even the vaporfly wouldnt have helped me catch run split #1. For the record, I was crap at the swimming and cycling bit but i cant blame my footwear for that. Oh⌠and I lost my wedding ring in the sea. I definitely should stick to running.
Oh man, that massively sucks!
How long since your last Tri?
I did this in April - luckily it was just a pool sprint, so I could retrieve it.
Grout needs cleaning
Yeah. Last tri, ironically, was Mallorca 70.3 almost exactly 5yrs ago⌠on my stag do! Yeah it really sucks. I stopped to look for it but the sea was really rough and people swimming around me, basically waves breaking on to the beach as it was really close to shore. I just gave up pretty quickly but now think i should have looked harder. Ive instructed all the Essex based Metal Detector clubs of the details and ÂŁ100 rewardâŚ
How would that happen? The elastic is very loose in that picture, and itâs basically just there to hold my heel in place; I did consider only using the top few eyelets. Thatâs why itâs not criss-crossed - because I I donât need the tension over the foot. Managed to get them on in a Sprint without too much faff, and had the fastest run by nearly a minute
So, nerd data alert. I just did a lunchtime session of 6x800 along a straight flat road near work. Run 1&2 in my normal ASICs DS Trainers, Run 3&4 in Vaporfly and Run 5&6 in ASICs DS Racers. Full disclosure, both pairs of ASICs are past their best, certainly beyond the 100ml limit of Vaporflys and a slight headwind on the run out (1,3,5) therefore tailwind ont he return runs (2,4,6) hence the oscillating times. Data from Garmin HRM run.
Changing shoes mid-session was an interesting experience. The Vaporflyâs felt very tall and unstable to start with. Then changing into the Racers, legs felt dead, probably explains why Run 5 was the slowest. Tried to keep RPE for each run the same, pace would suggest I went off on Rep 1 too fast, and HR would suggest the last was a higher RPE.
Overall, the Vaporfly are quicker, and that is due to a longer stride length. To achieve that stride length in the DS Racer required a higher HR. Itâs all pretty marginal, but that is hardly surprising, 5-6sec/ml.
At least you didnât try them out with a hangover and battered legs
I think the reason my HR data was so erratic was that for some reason my Garmin defaulted to wrist HR, and didnât connect to my Wahoo Tickr. I stopped several times to make sure the chest strap was tight and well âwettedâ to no avail. Of course wrist HR is very unreliable if you donât have the watch really tight too, which is what Iâm guessing happened. It had me ranging from 106 to 164! Although the average HR (126) was probably not that far off

Finally bit the bullet when I saw a good offer for 136GBP (equiv. of as Iâm in the USA). Havenât ran for 4 weeks though with a niggling injury so likely will stay in the box for a while until Autumn marathon training starts
Buy a bunch, bring them home and start flogging them here for a profit!
So I was wearing them the on the tiled floor at home to get used to the feel of them the other day; I noticed when I put pressure on the heel and slowly lifted it off, there was a pop/click sound in both shoes. This is obviously the plate; has anyone else noticed this - I mean pottering about, not running (this is a deliberate motion). The Zoom Fly doesnât do it, as far as Iâm aware; maybe I need to try!
Are you sure itâs not that little indent on the sole suckering to the tiled floor and popping?
Mine do that, too.
Have you noticed, whilst pottering in them, that weird flat plate thing at the front? Like a little square thing?
