Thats interesting - I was suspect my 4% might have been part of the cause, and avoided them when injured. I get some discomfort running in them on my right arch after running in them.

Mine are battered after only about 300km

Yeah, mine look like the ones above after 400km.

Just ordered a pair of Peg36s for £56.33
(I’m aware I don’t like them, but I need a pair of general training shoes as my VFFKs are knackered now)

Eh, what? Where from @Poet?

My injury was Quadricpts tendonitis, tried all of my shoes and these were by far the most comfortable. However, they don’t support ankle that well so my aggrivate ankle, calf and foot injuries

Ah I was trying to remember if that was your injury. I’ve self diagnosed myself with the same. Felt some aching/discomfort on my last run on Monday. Not run since. My right knee has been giving me a bit of grief from Monday. Felling much better now though.

Did you just rest it and stretch?

Nike site.
SUMMER30 code :+1:t3:

EDIT: @Doonhamer - They were the Air Zoom Pegasus 36 Shield edition, they look perfect for winter road training.

Basically yes. I caught it early. I rested and stretched for the first week, then started running, but really slowly, Was doing 3 x 10km runs weekly, around 6m/km pace. The first 3km of each run even slower, however, after 3km discomfort pretty much disappeared, but I could still feel it - Had to be really disciplined to keep pace slow after the initial 3km warm up. Kept that up for a couple of weeks, then gradually increased pace over next 2 weeks. I then settled into running around 12km sessions in low Z2 around 5:20m/km pace (still slower for first 3k). I was happy with that as it was basically the pace I would do my slow runs anyway, so just dropped the fast weekly interval session. I carried on like this, adding a bit more distance, for a few weeks, until Ironman VR9, which was my first fast run and at 21km was also my longest run for around 12 weeks. I really didn’t lose very much pace, and what I did lose came back within a month.

Early on I did lots of static exercises and stretching, I continued stretching, but didn’t continue the static exercises after the first 3 weeks

Symtoms: No pain walking or after exercise, only when running. Dull ache that was hard to pinpoint specifically, mainly about 5cm above the knee, but sometimes much higher. Ache eased off once well warmed up. Heal strike was more painful than toe strike. Caused pain in opposite knee because I think I was compensating for injury and putting more stress on the other leg

Thanks for that reply Matt.

Sounds very similar to myself - discomfort just above my right knee during and then after my last run, which was now a week ago. Ive done a fair amount of stretching all week and it feels fine now. Will plan a very easy run tomorrow and see how I get on. No events on the horizon so nothing to rush back to. Fortunately it’s been fine on the bike!

I had no issue on the bike as well, just running

I’ve had my Zoom Fly 2s a year now, and they are still looking good.

I was wearing a pair of my Zoom fly 2s when I picked up this injury. just over 600 km on them, was wondering if they were done. To look at they look in very good condition though

Mine still feel springy, must have done at least 600k on them by now. In fact I’ve only used my ZF3s twice, they are in cold storage.

That was the same for me with the flare up of plantar fascia pain pre-Malaga. I do wonder if wearing them almost exclusively for many weeks was the problem. The once or twice I’ve worn them since they did cause more aggravation in that area than other shoes.

I think it was my own fault for not mixing up my footwear a bit more with the high volume i was doing. Strange though. I’d been using them as my primary shoe all the way through to Nice as well without issue, so the flare up occurred a good 6 months after making them my main shoe. So maybe just coincidence

I’ve been rotating 3 pairs recently. 2 pairs of Zoom fly 2s and some Peg 36s. Doing between 30 and 40 km a week so I wouldn’t say crazy mileage.

I’ll give them a go on a shorter run. If they give me any grief I’ll bin them

thought Id give a bit of input from todays experience. I ran the EA virtual 5k champs today. Ran a PB of 16:16 where as previous PB was 3 years ago wearing Hoka Tracers with a PB of 16:48. That was at Rother Valley parkrun where as todays course was a two lap circuit near home. RV is flat and has the benefit of chasing other runners but half the course is hard packed stone. todays course was a little undulating (25 m gain and loss) and ran on my own but good tarmac surface throughout. Save the competition side I don’t think there’s much in the courses, swapping a bit of undulation for better surface.

The main difference between now and 3 years ago besides the shoes was im also about 4 kg lighter and would like to think im fitter which I feel contributes a good chunk of that 16:16 from 16:48.

On that basis, it says to me at this distance at least, the shoes don’t make a whole load of difference.
