I remember the one at the ITU Worlds in Lausanne.
Was easily 800-1000m

Good luck guys
Have a great race all.
Forecast isnāt looking too bad
Smash it chaps!
At it Tigers.
Fingers crossed thatās correct. BBC still seems to say heavy rain until 9, which given our start times, is pretty much all of the bike
It is long, but itās the same for everyone, so I donāt really see the problem.
I have now realised the point at which I turned around on my bike rebuild check, when I thought to myself ācanāt go down that dirt trackā is actually the finally bit of the bike course
Iām pretending itās funny. It was so full of pot holes, that if the rain does come, and they are semi flooded, itās going to be seriously treacherous as there will be no way to try and pick a clean line
A couple of them are cut off dodgers so worrying about that, couple of others trying to PB the distanceā¦
Yeah when we spoke earlier I rechecked. Said light rain. Just checked now and saying heavy rain.
Iāll take the Met office light rain
Roar !!!
Forgot about the dirt track!
You London types finished driving yet?
Whereās the quick debrief???
Haha, yeah, back home and one bottle of wine done!! Great day, lots of social shenanigans going on.
Keeping it brief
Swim: felt like it went ok. Donāt wear my watch so no idea when I get out, but I suspect a bit long, or head wind for first 1k making it slow- those are my excuses 31;xx
T1: fook me, it was a long one
Bike: 2:22 didnāt know the course. Pre race chatter had me believe the road surface was a shocker. It wasnāt great, but not as bad as billed. Rode quite conservatively in the hope of running strong, butā¦ā¦ā¦
T2 :
Run: no cramp off bike, bonus. Ran off ok, then just fade, again ffs. Not sure why I canāt convert a decent run. Avg Hr was 172, far too high. Maybe fatigue from two weeks ago at cotswolds. Anyway 1:34-just
4:38 5th Ag
2mins behind @Adam mutha fooker
Good stuff!
Nice, well done
Decent excuses.
And looking the the Facebook feed, Iād agree with them.
The full swim often feels 100-200m long, too
(Or, Iām crap and blame my 61 min swims on that!)
Yeah sorry I went straight out for a fathers day meal as soon as I was back.
I canāt believe checking the weather apps for what must be the 1000th time even at 4:30 this morning that it remained overcast all day with just a bit of a stiff breeze
Swim
I didnāt actually have high hopes for this. Iāve found my endurance really lacking once I get over ~1500 meters. Saying that I thought I could do an ok job, maybe find an extra gear on race day. Walking down to the pontoons both @stenard and I cocked up by chatting and not concentrating and went off in the middle. Had we chosen the left side we could have saved ourselves a few meters of swim. Not much in it. Anyway wished Steve good luck and watched him jump in. 5 seconds later I run and dive in and find his feet. I stayed there for a short time then lost him as we made our way through our wave. Pretty uneventful after this. I was swimming well within myself but making my way through the pack quite nicely. I timed 33:13 Outlaw have 34:09 - their timing mat felt like miles from swim exit. I know 1:40 pace isnāt smashing it but Iām relatively pleased and Iāll take that.
T1 - jokes. So long, fairly efficient once I got to my spot
Bike - Good day on the chair. Yeah the road surface isnāt 100%, aside from the dirt track back to T2 I found most of the grotty bits are avoidable. Couple of minor nutritional hardware issues. Top tube bag slid over to the side, only an issue as Iād wrapped the final Velcro strap around my rear brake cable stopping me from popping it back up. Annoyed me for about 10kms until I managed to unstrap it on the fly and dump it my my jersey pocket. Cable tie broke on my BTA bottle cage. Again not a huge issue but I had to hold in place with my forearms, every time I got out of the saddle it dropped down (the bottle finally flew out on the dirt track but to T2) I rode a 259 average with 275 np giving me 0.85 IF - yeah slightly high but felt pretty comfortable. I think the np crept up a bit as I attacked every hill, also no self control as I would surge past anyone in front of me. Course was a touch short but 2:21 is a 70.3 bike pb for me. I think I was overtaken by 3 bikes in total. One guy on a road bike was absolutely tearing shit up. Came past like I was stood still and looking super aero. Iām telling myself he was a relay rider. Apart from the wind conditions were pretty decent and just some slightly damp roads from the overnight rain
T2 - soo loong - spotted @chickenboy starting his run as I was running down it with my bike
Run - Really enjoyed the new course, no towpath and a little bit of variety running past the water rapids. This was easily my best run at this distance. Tried to keep a lid on things to start - this was basically telling myself not to see the Garmin saying anything starting with a 3. I think I was running 4:05 - 4:10s for the first ~10kms. Running into the headwind I think the pace dropped to around 4:20s for a couple. At my worst I had 4 kms at 4:30. At this point I was starting to flag but I knew the end was close and I perhaps had a chance of running sub 1:30. For the first time in a half I found an extra gear and was determined to finish strong. Hitting the final straight back to the finish I got my pace back into the low 4:20s and even managed to squeeze out a sprint to bring it home. Didnāt quite manage it and posted a low 1:31.
I think I can honestly say this is probably the best Iāve performed at the distance and my slow climb of the AG leaderboard continues. 9th today in M35
Super pumped to finish top of the TriTalk pile though
Canāt say I didnāt try
FOOKIN YEAH LAD
Brilliant report.
Sod us lot - glad to hear you got a good Fathers Day meal
