Outlaw half - Nottingham

Yeah. I’m so sorry guys. I was a late entrant too.

Game plan shouldn’t change really

This weather change is bloody disappointing! It was looking like being ideal initially. Oh well.

I just received a day license email, yet I’d entered saying I was a member of BTF? I guess it doesnt really matter (to me) if they’ve paid extra for a BTF day license on my behalf when it was unnecessary, right?

Think I would have the right hump if after the last 3 weeks I got rainfilth on race day…

(MIne will no doubt come for the full on 25 July…)

I’ve fallen into the trap of checking it regularly now.

I’m trying to remain positive that bbc is saying ‘light’ rain.

Looking like I’m in for a soaking on both my Thursday/Friday commutes too :upside_down_face:

Like it’s not your fault

I see my rain dance worked :footprints::leg::footprints::eyes:

Just spent some time putting Stans in my tubes. Would have risked it but don’t trust those roads.

Anyone else not bothering with the bike feed station ?
Looks like an easy way to lose time to me

Forecast is getting worse day by day :sob::sob:

Not planning on stopping on the bike. The whole get off and rack then grab a drink etc seems way too slow.

I think for a half I can carry everything I need.

Planning on 2 500ml bottles and a couple of shot block packs in the top tube bag

Oh ffs! You really are bloody cursed! It was literally perfect a week ago, and now it’s thunderstorms!

I’m finally getting into race mode. Need to start getting my stuff together. Just properly had a look at the course. Doesnt seem too technical. There’s only one descent that seems to have a turn in the middle of it (up in that top Southwell corner). Everything else seems fairly straightforward.

Just subscribed to BBS on a one month license. Found a 30% off code so was under a tenner. Has me under 2:30 based on my “normal” numbers (traditional cda, crr and target IF). But I have got a few new bits of aero equipment since I last ran a simulation (new skinsuit, new helmet), and I’m now on latex tubes which should improve crr. If I can also push a bit more power, then it has me at 2:26, although wet roads are going to hamper that massively I would guess. What are you speed demons targeting?

I won’t be using the aid station.
BTA bottle with PH1500 fluids. I’ll have a spare 500ml bottle of the same behind the saddle. And then an aero bottle of Maurten on the downtube

Not sure how the bike will go. I’ve got a 2.26 from Holkham 2 years ago, so I suppose if I’m in that ball park it’s been a good ride.

I’m quite a way down the batting order with a 6.40 start - that bike feed could be carnage with queues of people all over the road :rofl:

If it was anything like the Cotswold aid station that was setup similarly last year, noone was using it

I managed in the heat on Sunday, so I think you’ll be fine

Might stuff an extra tube or two in the tail of my helmet

Ooh that’s a shout. Bit of weight might keep the tail down !

Anyone done the bike course? Just realised my disc has an 11-26 cassette on it, as I’ve only done flat fast races with it the last few years (didnt use it in Nice). I’d normally have 11-28 so just wondering if I should switch. Looking at the RWGPS profile, it doesnt look too bad? There’s only one 500m section or so at 8%. So I feel the closer gearing in the middle of the block is probably better for the bulk of the ride?

But does real life “feel different” anywhere on the course? I’m fairly sure I’ve seen a few people I know racing saying they’re going 1x, which would indicate there’s nothing to worry about?

It’s a 2min effort. The worst part is the false flat up to it.

I’m not one to big up cranking a big gear, but it really isn’t an issue to worry about.
Rest of the course having an appropriate gear on some of the rolling and drags far more important IMO.

Edit sub 4mins Inc the false flat and lead in.

The hill is nothing to worry about.

I’ve got an 11/23 on my disc and I’ll run that with standard 53/39. From memory I went up it in the big ring last time I rode it

11/26 will be fine. Ridden the course lots of times. Its a course for getting aero, putting your bike in a big gear and smashing it. I’m a slightly built, skinny climber, who spins at 100rpm and I’ve ridden it with a cotton reel more than once.

Well Sunday can’t be any wetter than my commute in this morning.

It was actually ok for about 45 minutes. Gentle rain but absolutely fine. The last 15 minutes? Completely saturated. More of the same tonight it seems :sweat_drops:

Are others planning on dressing for speed or warmth? I was planning on speed given the headline temps were in the 11-14 range, but I’ve just seen the supposed real feel will be nearer 6 or 7, so that’s making me reassess.

Possibly some lightweight castelli windproof gloves, and the Huub Norseman trisuit I have …
