Parkrun

I’m hoping to do the Severn Bridge one, could be a swimrun if we’re swept away :grimacing:

No Parkrun at Winchester tomorrow, need to make way for the Chilli and Cheese Festival!

Yep. 4-5ft messy, windy waves forecast at out local beach which is not a big surf break.

Bantham in South Devon is forecast 15-18ft! Horrible messy stuff but still, that wind is pushing in hard!

Guess you’re not heading out on the wind surfer then?! :joy:

I probably will go windsurfing late morning. The wind is meant to be pretty much directly onshore which is only sailable when the tide is out (due to the breakwaters we have here) and the tide times are favourable for this. I shall assess the conditions after parkrun (and breakfast).

Wasn’t going to go today (rain, wind, soft) but got bullied into it by @Poet on another thread.

Actually in the end it was pretty good running conditions in Taunton, the course is quite sheltered by trees and I enjoyed it so thanks boss :vulcan_salute:t2:

Arrived with seconds to spare and just went by feel, latched onto a group running about 20 minutes pace. There was another grizzled grey buffer who looked to be M50+, that or had had a harder paper round than most, so I stayed with him and was able to stretch away a little in the final km for 19m38

edit: results are in, he was M55-59 and finished in 19m45 so fair play

I did the Severn Bridge :bridge_at_night: I will confess to being a bridge nerd :joy: almost a year since the misery of running to Sweden :joy:

The wind was at least as brutal and a steady climb to the turn. The way back was slightly easier and the wind was mostly across but slightly behind as well.

Nice views of the newer bridge and estuary.

Was absolutely battered for some reason, legs are sore probably from the double bike on Thursday.

Anyway, finished in 22:28 so a decent workout.

They like the fact it goes from Wales to England and back so gets quite a few tourists.

Saw you’d done that on Strava and was hoping you hadn’t been blown off and now heading out towards Ireland

I’d have been blown towards Gloucester fortunately :joy:

27:55 for me , although that half bottle of wine last night did me no favours

I believe they run on the other side of the bridge if the wind is from the north, so you are swept into the traffic rather than the estuary.

Presumably cancelled if really bad as the bridge closes in the worse winds.

We were getting blown into the carriageway today, but he did say it was the A route :man_shrugging:t2:

Conditions were pretty good in our local park if a little breezy - but it’s well sheltered and the rain stopped at about 8:59am. Pushed a bit hard, hung on for dear life and got a time of 19:58. My watch said 20:02 so I’ll take the ‘official’ time. My fastest parkrun since early September last year.

Lacklustre park run here this morning.

Jogged to the start feeling dubious. Ran 3km at about 19m30 minutes pace like last week, right on the shoulder of the same balding geezer, but it felt much harder than usual and at 3.5km I suddenly thought nah and started walking. Walked for about 100m and then ran it home for (edit) 21m28s.

Still feeling meh :face_with_diagonal_mouth: myself but had offered to marshal and ended up walking further than 5k.

20:04 today at my local. Worked pretty hard and my time was better than I thought it was going to be - as at least half of it I was on my own and I quite like a bit of close company. I only checked my watch maybe two or three times so wasn’t quite sure how I was doing.

Local run for me today, legs were very sluggish in the short warmup and it’s very muggy.

Got going and thought I was doing about 4:40 pace until I got to halfway in 11:10. Kept going but yesterday’s long ride was catching up with me and I had to dig in, luckily it’s a slight descent on the way back.

Managed 22:14 so a slight negative split as it’s a bit further on the way back. Better than planned and expected. Still at least a minute off my best on that course.

First time in a while for me today, a pretty warm one. Paced 23 minutes and came in with a few seconds to spare. I’m sure the timekeepers will rob me of a couple of seconds or so.

Local one was cancelled today due to another event, so popped along to the next closest. Its all grass and plenty of sharp turns, so a bit tricky with the buggy. Did about 24:20, not sure I had much more in me. Need to lose about 10kg.

Saw these recent results posted elsewhere. Who says its not a race :joy:

So do I - just seen a picture of myself and I’m definitely carrying some spare timber.
