DNS for me. Slept in until 8:50, didn’t mean to, obviously not used to socialising these days. ![]()
MrsF’s best mates birthday today and we’re out for lunch. So up early and went to Newbury (Greenham Common) - I’ve been here before back in 2013.
Single lapper on hardish gravel and painful throughout. Went off far too quickly and hung on for dear life. Happy to finish in 20:09. Boy that was hard work.
GC is a nice course. Bit of sprint to get through the first pinch pinch point on that gravel path. ![]()
Nice, I have to come down and do it, Street, I can leave the wife in Clarks Village (or whatever its called)
Oh wait, that sounds expensive.
Street isn’t a great course but it’s close to Wells, so ok in a pinch. Burnham is my ‘go to’ usually when at Mum’s.
Main problem with Street is that it’s 3 laps of two playing fiels with an elongated ‘M’ in one field that makes up the distance.
Positives are that it’s a low attendance course (70-100 ish) and everyone is friendly. It also has very close and ample parking.
I’m slowly warming to it, and it’s many times better than Shepton-Mallet, which is an absolute shit show.
LO has had a bit of a cold, she’s ok now but has a 1500 mtr race tomorrow, so she got a lie in.
Mrs FP and I rocked up to Winchester. I was keen to see if I had any semblance of speed left at all. I ran 19:20 for the first 4km and legs were ok, but other support systems, back, breathing weren’t happy.
Slowed to a walk for a couple of mins to wait for Mrs FP with 1km top go, but she was further back than I thought. Picked it up and jogged in with somebody else I knew for a 28:15.
Not there yet, but encouraging. ![]()
One of our running club members celebrated his 800th today, up there with funkin, would have been a few more but he was unwell earlier this year and missed a few.
I’m in Yorkshire and went to Hillsborough, 3 laps round a park on tarmac with a 2-part draggy climb.
Start was slightly downhill and wasn’t far off the front as it was busy but did the first K in 4:01 which wasn’t going to end well ![]()
![]()
Paced it well after that with all the K splits being 4:16 or 4:18. In the last 400m about 5 people went past with sprint finishes ![]()
Official time was 21:12 and 45/600 so not too bad.
Garmin said I did 5k a few seconds quicker and my fastest 5k of the year! Without the hill I think I’d have scraped under 21.
Knee is a bit tight though, need to get back massaging the quad and leg.
Our course has changed ever so slightly at the moment due to work being done in the car park - which I think makes it ever so slightly shorter than normal. Either way I ran 19:36 today which is my fastest in over a year. Great weather for it today.
Next week the nearest parkrun is about 4miles from where I’m staying - guess it’ll be a week off, that’s probably too far for me these days!
Haha that looks painfully familiar
I wasn’t there that week, but can confirm it’s not usually as dry underfoot as that. The whole meadow is a floodplain of the river Tone & after it’s rained a bit the surface is a little more gloopy
Recognise his name from the results, think he’s a regular
My mate Jamie came up from Southampton for a catch up. He ran with LO but sped on a bit and finished 22.04. LO ran a 23.07.
I started with Mrs FP but she was yo-yoing badly. We were about 31min pace but with just over 2km to go, she told me to go on, so I pushed it a bit and had a 27:47.
Felt ok- ish ![]()
@FatPom I ended up running with the bloke who shot that Park Run video this evening! And also Craig of “celebrating Craig’s 500th Park Run” fame.
Nice blokes & decent runners too
Did you keep up? ![]()
With Mr 500 Craig yes, with Marcus not so much ![]()
Going to head down to do Exmouth parkrun tomorrow. It’s 2 of my mate’s 50th’s (one today and one tmw). They’ve been out for a 50km today and out little climb south west crew are heading down for PR tmw. Should be good fun (and also a party tmw night).
As a little bet I said anyone doesn’t beat my daughter, who fancies a run out, has to buy the first round!
So. She’s done one proper pr with me before. It was 2.5yrs ago and she was 8.5. We ran a 26.32 which was great for her longest ever run!
Trying to decide what to aim for. She’s obvs 2.5yrs older now. She’s fit and strong but doesn’t really run train, despite being a good runner. She’s a solid all rounder.
@FatPom what is your LO running? She’s in Yr 8 right? What was she doing 12-18 months ago. She’s more of a pure runner than mine. So I’d have to take that into account.
I want her to enjoy it, but to work hard. So don’t wanna head out too fast, cos I guess the 3-5km will bite with her lack of experience at going longer.
What do the TT massive reckon? 23 or so? Aim for 4.40s or something like that? I don’t have a watch any more so may make sense to choose a pacer and go with that.
I’d make her pace it, but age equivalent time would have her a bit slower than that.
Why do I feel this is a massive sandbag and you’ll both smash out 16 and change? ![]()
It’s her 2nd ever parkrun? That means it’s not her first, so she’ll have some idea.
Are you not tempted to just let her go for it & see what happens? Maybe she’ll go off too fast, but that would be be good intel for attempt #3 later on.
Are you going to run alongside her the whole way?
If we’re having a sweepstake, based on what you’ve said I’ll go 23m50s
Good luck both ![]()
PS did a Dad and son parkrun too last week with #1… he won ![]()
Yeah 2nd pr. She’s not tended to be interested Tbh (plus in the summer lifesaving is on Sat morns so it’s not even a option).
I think she motivated because I said she could probs beat some of my friends and get them to buy her a pastry afterwards! ![]()
I am tempted to let her pace. But she has a tendency to start a bit too steadily. Not that it really matters at all.
I’ll run with her the whole way for sure. Maybe we’ll try the 24 pacer instead and drop them if we can with a km to go or so.
Yeah she’s Yr8. 18mths ago (Jan 2025 to be precise) her PB was 22.03
Have fun tomorrow ![]()
