Ended up being a hard one today. Bit annoyed at lack of miles recently so wanted to do a few miles warmup, but got a bit delayed and left the house at gone 8:30, and effectively did a 500m warmup to the and then ran the course almost at tempo pace. Ended up having a 5 minute break before we started and just about stuck with the 20 minute pacer for a 19:45.
Does that put you 2nd to the paint drying??
@Poet dont know if you are planning it - but with a North Easterly breeze forecast; its perfect conditions.
Sheltered into the wind; tailwind on the home straight. I reckon its good for 20-30 seconds. Youâd be able to go sub 24
FRO.
Managed 20:36 official at Wilmslow last week, dunno if the wife and dogs wanna set off at 7am, though!
@mw22 - Asthma flared up again today. Couldnât exercise, sacking off tomorrow
Soz pal
Had a test at the trail parkrun this morning, plan was to start steadyâish and pick it up depending on how I felt. Was still spluttering a bit and well off the pace but managed the last 2K about 4 minute pace and wasnât completely blowing. Although thereâs a gradual climb outbound and descent on the way back.
About 21:20 which is alright, course is still a bit soft in places.
Coughing a bit now though.
Salisbury Parkrun today. Set off a bit too far back, easy pace at the start, then after 0.5k though sod this and started to pass people. Had to bridge from one group of runners to the next, then repeat. Got passed in sprint for the line. Finished 9th in 19:20, happy with result
25.46 today with LO. i ran 13km beforehand and did the run with full race kit for next weekend. Felt harder than it should have.
LO has been doing 5km parkruns since she was 4yrs old. I donât know the exact timing but Iâm going to say that in the last 3 yrs I donât think she has ever failed to finish 1st in JW10.
EXCEPT FOR TODAY, GAME ON MILLE MORGAN, GAME ON.
Did Bushy as part of this weeks long run - had planned to get a lap in before but I faffed too much, did four laps in the end.
Timed it so the start would be a one minute walk then rinsed and repeated the 9-1, was a bit odd taking a couple of minute walk breaks while hundreds came by but it worked well enough.
Same again next week I think with an added lap
The family werenât up, and with little clean running gear from being away, I didnât have time or desire to make load of noise finding some more 3/4 running tights, so I went in shorts⌠it was COLD this morning.
Arrived at Parkrun, saw the 20 pacer was a guy I know has a PB just outside 20 - but apparently it was his 400th parkrun and thought volunteering would be good - came in at 20:05 and the conditions werenât that fast, so probably it encouraged him along.
None of the people who are definitely faster than me were at the start line - so I started at the front, no annoying running behind people today. Went off reasonably fast trying to get warm, some bloke came past me at about 500m and quickly distanced me.
Some other bloke (you may know him as @BadAsh) was about 5m behind and stayed at about that gap probably for the entire first lap, relatively slow up the hill as always, but as I turned back to the start of the second lap, the steps of the person behind me seem to disappear, and a lonely second lap (well lots of people to lap to say well done too) finished in 18:38 - over a minute down on first, my first lap shadow finishing in 18:50.
Thatâs a good time today
Another big PB for our youngest today. Sheâs really coming on and most importantly sheâs really enjoying herself. She always gets comments as sheâs got this room lightening smile on her when people cheer her on. Sheâs proper ying yang this kid. Part angel, part demon!
She had topped with a 15.30 last Nov, then we had a winter break.
This year sheâs taking huge chunks every few weeks. Down to a 13.30 today. The run has about 10m elevation per km as well, which is my normal benchmark for a bumpy run.
Very nice mini GB - mine had a decent effort today too. 14:30 which is about a minute quicker than his previous pb. Maybe heâs turned a corner, only a couple of short walks today and a steady effort throughout with a decent kick at the end!
Yes, good effort!
Itâs so hard teaching them to pace isnât it! It always seems to me to be the boys that are te worst though. We kept catching this lad. He was a fair few years older and obviously couldnât bear the thought of a little girl overtaking him. So heâd sprint off for 10/20m. Get knackered. Start walking. Then weâd catch him again. Rinse and repeat until we broke him mentally!
Yep, with LO itâs either young boys that canât handle her passing them or some of the 40-50 yr old women. Most of the blokes are fine but the women get all pony club Mum elbows and try to put a spurt on, itâs comical to watch.
Mini GB is coming on leaps and bounds mate, you should be very proud.
Itâs amusing when you catch someone whoâs generally started too quickly, you catch up and they try and speed up for a while, then drop back again until theyâre wrecked.
If Iâm feeling ok I sometimes put a little dig in when I get past so they usually give up
This is why I felt like such a bellend doing 9-1 during Parkrun - for everyone else it looks like youâre taking a random break only to come back passed a minute down the line!
I did want to ask. Whatâs the reason for even bothering with the parkrun? Personally Iâd much rather be out there in my own. Particularly if I were doing a dedicated session like that.
Youâre not going to get your 500 t-shirt with that attitude!
Pretty much as Jim said Pete. It was the only time I was getting that run in so why not? I was still able to get the run done and ticked off another Parkrun finish. I know it doesnât mean anything, the 100 t-shirt isnât a million miles away now (Iâm somewhere in the 70s)
Had a chat with the Mrs about putting aside some time to get some long rides in, Iâm conscious that lifeâs got in the way the last two weeks and I need to get back on track. Iâm going off piste here but the long ride will probably be Sat and long run Sun this week
