It’s not on next weekend (29th). I think there’s a festival in the park or something.
I’m hopefully starting regular park runs in Lancashire
I have one 1.5 miles from me but the course is crappy twisty turny and wet all year round (field drain )
Back at Crewe 13 th July I hope ?
It was just a one off for us - a club outing. A bit out of our way to go regularly.
Had a few drinks yesterday afternoon/evening as we went out to a “musical bingo” event at our local sailing club. A few rum and cokes followed by beers and a good time was had.
Wasn’t quite feeling 100% this morning and needed three motions to get to todays race weight (proper race weight is about a stone away)! Very hot in the park but somehow I managed my best time in over a year - about 20:30. There were I think three of us pushing each other round and that kept us working hard. One of them was pushing a buggy. He beat me, and on our local parkrun with narrow paths, multiple laps and some very tight turns he did really well.
I was going to ease off near the finish as I felt I was getting close to my first ever time being sick as a race (er, timed 5k). Thankfully it didn’t happen (easing off or being sick).
Ran 5km to Parkrun then went around with LO, 23.55 for her and 24.19 for me. I was knackered
Ran my 13th with Mrs eJC at Long Eaton. Their 9th anniversary - it was mobbed. 150k finishers in 9 years is pretty impressive
Was originally down to help this morning but was surplus when I got there so decided to run it but not flat out
Steady first 2K then picked up the pace over the last 3K and just dipped under 22 minutes
Got a trail half tomorrow so hopefully not battered myself
Local park run this morning
Hissing down at half eight and I very nearly went for a flat out treadmill 5k but decided to do a bit outside.
It’s Quite a strange two lap affair with two awful mud/ rutted grass/ tree roots/ rises which really slow you down
The rest is quite nice.
A pb in recent times 20:23.
1 st ( lol) 55-60
6 th overall.
Av hr 162 ( maybe started too slow ?)
The winner ran 17 ish apparently but didn’t register ( that is fast for that course)
Enjoyed it!
So this is what I wrote a week ago from my local (Bognor Regis) parkrun (which is multi lap and narrow, but all decent paths)…
This morning we went to our old haunt Bushy Park where I’ve now run 249 times. There were puddles, it was windy but I somehow ran 19:23! Well chuffed with that.
decent
Nice !!!
My tourist friend is in Stornaway!
Woolacombe Dunes Parkrun report.
Gentle walk from our apartment to the start which is from the road on top of the beach.
Caitlin was a late withdrawal - I think deterred by the reputation of the course - generally acknowledged to add about 5 minutes to average times.
Loads of tourists and some very fit looking folks (including one Roth finisher shirt) but otherwise looks pretty much like any other Parkrun start crowd.
The start is about 50m above sea level and the race begins with a gentle downhill followed by a sharp turn with a steep downhill to the South West Coast Path. So far so good. As soon as you hit the SW Coast Path the sand begins and becomes quite hard going. At about 1.2km it’s a sharp drop through deep sand onto the flat beach.
Fortunately the tide was out so we could run on the firm wet sand for the next 1.5km. Unfortunately there was a fairly stiff headwind - felt like I was pushing hard but only managing 5:40m/km pace which was hard going.
Past some rocks and then right turn up the Dune of Doom - a 35m high sand dune which was walked like all the others around me. The dune is apparently easier when it is wet weather as the sand doesn’t slip under your feet as much.
Over the dune and then back onto the SW Coast Path. Shortly thereafter with about a km to go begins the run in to the finish - a 50m climb back to the start which is really tough.
31m finish - disappointed not to go sub 30 tbh but have done quite a bit of running this week
Good fun overall
Keeping up my tradition of only having done Parkruns beginning with W - Worsley Woods, Windhoek and Woolacombe Dunes
That looks lovely / grim.
Tough course, well done
After yesterdays run that left me questioning whether I’m fit enough to even climb my own stairs, decided to rock up with LO and Mrs FP.
LO declared she only wanted a medium run because, well I don’t know why. Good, hurrah 30 secs later she says she’s actually feeling good enough to go faster. FFS
Any, ran together and she sprinted ahead for 23.14 and a 23.27 for me.
I’d say I felt worse at the half way point of parkrun today than I did at the same point in the race on Tuesday where I was almost 5 minutes quicker (overall, not at halfway). I don’t think 4 races on the track last night helped.
Was a bit humid, I had a proper sweat on.
My 180th at Lydiard for the darts crowd.
After last weeks Bushy parkrun where I went out far too fast but somehow hung on to my best time in almost a year (19:23) today we went to our second closest parkrun to home - Littlehampton Prom. This is fast out and back over two laps and three 180 degree turns.
Conditions were great and I stupidly went out even faster than last week. First km was at 18:15 pace!!! Needless to say I spent much of the run being overtaken. Hung onto 19:39 which I was very happy with - it was just really hard work and had I gone off slower then I’d have probably ended up quicker.
All good fun.
Just as an aside, we went to a different parkrun yesterday to see a friend and his wife who were also there. He ran with his dog who was should we say rather, er, excited at the start. This is about 10 seconds after the start….
They were overtaken by a couple of runners but hung on pretty darn well.
