Parkrun

@fruit_thief

That was HORRENDOUS pacing! :joy: I hope you had a 60mph tailwind at the start?!

Lol

17.59 on the watch but official time is going to be a few seconds slower as only started watch when crossed the start line

Donā€™t care, Iā€™m taking it all the way to the bankā€¦ Been chasing a sub 18 for years

Cardiff must be about as fast a course as they come, good surface and only 4m elevation, single loop along the river.

Didnā€™t look at my watch in until 4km in, was suffering but did a bit of mental arithmetic and realised it was just about on, gritted teeth because that last km was grim. Probably wonā€™t ever do another!

No parkruns where Iā€™m going to be in 2023 :sob: Think #1 goal will be donā€™t gain 3 stone, and #2 goal donā€™t get melanoma and #3 donā€™t get driven over. Actually havenā€™t quite finalised the order of those.

18m08 was the official time this morning, happy with that as still a 5km PB by a few seconds despite the advancing decrepitude. No doubt Cardiff is a flattering course though, and where would we be without special shoes. The most surprising thing was we managed to persuade junior to wake up at 8.30am and join usšŸ‘

Eldest boy is keen for his first junior Parkrun tomorrow. Iā€™m 100% sure he hasnā€™t got 2km in him but heā€™s insisting. I think the reality will set in within 100 metres and he sees thereā€™s still so far to go. I think lots of ā€˜wall breaksā€™ will be in order. As long as he doesnā€™t asked to be carried!

saw plenty of adults just pull their kid around, not even sure they were trying to cheat, just get it over and done with sooner, so you can always do that.

My god I hate it when I see that, says way more about the parentā€™s ego than it does about the kid.

Oh god Iā€™m not pulling him around. If he gives up thatā€™s fine by me, Iā€™m not the pushy type. Heā€™s adamant he wants to be ā€œlike Daddyā€ and is totally driving this

Mine wants me to run with her tmw again. Wants another pb. Trying to let her know thatPBā€™s are hard work. And we were pretty near her limit last week, so unlikely to beat it without a bit of growing. Still, good to see a bit of fire in her. And sheā€™s quick enough for it to be a decent little 2km.

Running with the younger one is hard. Too fast to walk but too slow to run.

Thatā€™s superb pacing. And exactly how to pace a parkrun PB :person_shrugging:t3:

Ah the boy did good. Very proud of him today. I could tell he was on the nervous side at the start but we placed ourselves at the back and gently jogged to get going. I told him not to run as fast as he could as we had a long way to go and he just held my hand and cracked on. He probably made it nearly 500 metres before he asked if we could walk for the first time.

It didnā€™t take too long to get to the turn and thinking yes, heā€™s totally got this. He got a bit shy when he spotted Mum and younger boy cheering him on but the finish line was in sight. He very nervously ran down the chute but was very happy with himself scanning his token and barcode

Very proud Daddy today, a great experience

Single lap course then? At Surbiton which is 2 laps, so many of the very young first timers bailed on the first lap, 'cos they were going past the finish.

Ha!

Yes, Bushy is an out and back. Starting just up from the fountain, towards the gate at Teddington then back
