Last week we had 600 odd, which was the 2nd highest turnout I can remember.
Just looked up today’s field, 473, that’s still pretty high for us.

Looks like there is actually a dip in the summer, maybe holidays and the like, winter numbers impacted by cancellations, but the general trend is just up.
I think numbers were high on NYD but a bit lower last weekend because of cancellations again, but general trend seems to be upwards.
Ticked off my 700th parkrun yesterday. Happy with a time of 20:30 - and when chatting to a friend afterwards he asked what my average time is. A quick check of the 5K app on my phone and it said 20:36. So in nearly 18 years of doing them I’m still hanging on in there. I’ve had my best ever age grade during the past year as that’s the only number that I can hope to improve on.
Oh, the organisers have this week set up a “PB bell” for after the finish. I can’t see myself ever making use of that.
You are in a small group on here, although it doesn’t include yesterday so not in the 700’s yet.
That is a stat you should be immensely proud of of
Helped out today instead of running, although did check the course beforehand, there was still a couple of icy puddles but a low turnout and a couple of cones was enough to accept it. Then did timekeeping.
Racing tomorrow instead.
Ran the first 2km first with LO but again, just felt out of breath, so backed right off and jogged it in with Mrs FP for a 28.45.
LO ran a 23.53 and came 1st in JW11-14 (out of 3 )
100%
Mud … yuck
That is a big number
Nice running !
Event #666 at our local. I was under strict instructions to be home by 9:30 as we had a train to London booked, which is made more challenging as the event (almost) never starts before 9:05. Had to bring my cheating shoes.
Quite a decent turnout of runners, and a decent pack (well about 6 of us) around the 20 minute pacer, who I don’t think was a regular and started too far back. @JibberJim was rock steady pacing for 2km.
It was feeling hard and cold (first time running in just a t-shirt and no gloves for a while) from the horn. But just about held it together for a pretty evenly paced 19:41. Quickest time in 3 months, since twisting my ankle and barely running. Quite a fitting time given 19:40 was my PB for about 7 years.
Although I had token #15 I was the first to be scanned.
Walked through the front door at 9:30:30.
We made the train, but only just, but that’s story!
upwards, or downwards?
Nice running
Tourist flex today. Franschhoek parkrun
Slow because:
Sand (!!!)
30 degrees
The day after a wine tour.
It was lovely but hard work. I’m not really a holiday parkrunner but when I woke up in time I knew I’d regret it if I didn’t go. So made the most of it. And got my highest finish placing - real runners don’t parkrun in South Africa so mostly walkers.
The pacer was a bit all over the pace for sure on that first 2km, going way too fast, then too easy down the hill, I think I was fast too though for the 2km, but probably about right for 19:40 as you say, as always now I knocked it off as soon as I hit the hill and 21:00 dead for me - even with a fast last 30m for some reason I forget.
I didn’t even remove my wind jacket, it was that cold - you were way underdressed, but I guess the incentive worked!
Did my first ever Parkrun yesterday and came (a very flattering) second. The proper runners were all resting up for a local race.
This is also an indication of when I retired from racing
I love Franschhoek! Some amazing restaurants there.
They didn’t make you run up the pass? You’d have to fight the baboons off at the first hairpin
We drove down the pass on Thursday. A good family of baboons waiting for the cyclists coming up. Just having the best holiday! The western cape is spectacular.
Headed to the big city for Albert parkrun this morning as the other one was cancelled due to those fallen trees! I was originally going to be the 24 minute pacer.
Decided to follow the 22 minute pacer in an attempt not to go to hard and take it easy on the calf, although the first K was still a bit brisk
Stayed with him until just after 3K and decided to catch a small group just ahead.
Probably around 21:20 so not too bad. Calf is tight but not too bad.
Edit: bizarre combination today of a credit for volunteering with the course check at one location and a run credit at another! I’ll have HQ on my case
Didn’t get out yesterday as I was over in Manchester helping my daughter sort out a leak in her bathroom so I was brimming with energy today .
Would have liked to go to a fast PR for a bit of a benchmark but with one car getting an MOT () & wife doing weekly shop with other I had to do the local.
Had a good run with a couple of fellas for first lap, but then they started to fall away & I nicked first in position & the age thingy. Had felt I was running well, but a bit disappointed with time.
Definitely benefitted with stronger club runners targeting club XC thus afternoon or the local club road race tomorrow.
