Parkrun

Well I jogged down to the Taunton parkrun, only to find it har been cancelled.

Managed to find a group to do a DIY run round with anyway, we got round in about 23 minutes.

The course was full of frozen puddles and pretty treacherous, so can see why it was cancelled.

That’s now 3 runs in 3 days, calf was feeling just a little tight today, yes I know @apm , day off tomorrow.

Marshalled at Kingston. Took a spare coat and wolly hat and it was still very cold. Did a ride afterwards.

I see that yoga teacher I used to run with from around your way is part of starting Flint Castle parkrun. Might give that a go in the summer months.

Often seems to be helping at the Wepre Parkrun & very involved when my run club do couch to 5k.

(Just going to add that the Parkrun websites seem to be very slow for me today :person_shrugging:)

This was mental :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

There’s a few round here that you could probably do in the same morning and under an hour if you can get transport between them and don’t mind finishing at the back on the second! Barely 4K apart. They did used to do an NYD special of 9am & 10am before HQ put a stop to it.

I thought it was going to be one of those attempts here. Hadn’t realised that HQ had stopped it. The Winchester at 9.00, then Eastleigh at 10.00 on NYD used to be very popular. I never did it though.

9.11 start time is pretty slack, Winch gets antsy if we haven’t started by 9.03

The start times can be quite slack at some events, not so bad during summer but you don’t want to be standing around in winter

Kingston and Bushy you could walk between if you were quicker than 45minutes, probably quicker than any transport you could muster for anyone faster than 30m.

On NYD 2011 myself and a couple of others ran Bushy (started bang on 9am), immediately got scanned, then ran the (just under) four miles to Richmond parkrun and then ran that at 10am. Boy I was fit then as I ran Bushy in 19:09 and then Richmond in 19:57.

Just watching Max Kelly run Bushy. he says there are three finish funnels. How on earth does that work for time/placing?

There isn’t.

They split the main queue up when you’ve gone through the funnel.

Ah that makes more sense :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

It’s impressive to watch when the 22-28 minute runners start coming in!

details of the real double funnel as used at Preston Park (Brighton). I’ve not actually been there since they started using it as I’ve started to tour the other local events while down there.

I do feel for the volunteers organising the Bushy funnel - you can get stuck in there for a good while

Went out with the intention of trying a progressive park run today. Never managed it yet.

Failed again, went too fast in Kms 2 and 3 slowed down in km 4 and 5 instead of getting faster.

Think I might try again next week by aiming for HR of 130, 140, 150, 160, 170 in each km and see if that works :man_shrugging:t2:

Mud fest today but can’t blame that as each km was equally muddy

The hr thing likely won’t yield a true prog run as you have the cumulative effect. Even if you ran at exactly the same pace for the whole 5km, your km hr avg would go up and up.

Depending on how your hr responds to a 5km run/race, you may see the pace drop despite the hr going up.
