That’s what he’s posting about - he feels fine and looks well but the reality is very different.

Head over to the rant rant rant thread.

It’s been a couple of years since I visited this thread I think! I don’t follow the scene at all now but did watch this earlier. IMo it’s a great piece, the stiff DL is doing now at GCN is great.

Anybody watched it, are they right?

Tom Pidcock is a diva, fell out with Cummings. Who was sidelined for the tour.
They’re also a bit naff.

Yeah the “I” in team. Selfish, petulant little brat. It’s sad when there’s so much potential but he just wanted to be number 1 from day 1 and nothing works like that in real life.

The u in Scunthorpe, isn’t he?
I should ride with Velo Edge and get the gossip :joy::see_no_evil:

I thought he was a bit of a diva but watching that video is seems he has done exactly what he and the team set out as his goals.

Hopefully the shift in focus will suit them as they aren’t winning a GC anytime soon.

I am not convinced that Pidcock will ever be a GC contender in the big tours where the best GC riders turn up. He seems more of a small punchy, classics rider type, like Alaphilippe.

I agree, but also think similar was said about Thomas and Wiggins whether they’d ever be 3 week riders.

Apparently Nacer Bouhhani (sp?) ran a 2:36 at Frankfurt at the weekend.

I think Pidcock could re-invent himself as a GC rider, like Thomas did. Question is…

  • Does he want to? Think he would have to give up CX and MTB, similar to Thomas giving up track
  • Is being as good as G, good enough anymore? Thomas in his prime deserved to win the Tour, and should have won at least one Giro. But now?

Thing is, if he doesn’t target GC, what does he do? He could continue to win MTB but not sure that justifies his salary.

Yeah but might need a jiffy or two

Ironic that Ineos’s best grand tour results of the last two years have been G’s 3rd places in the Tour and Giro. I thought his GC days were done after the 2019 Tour

Pidcock is a great prospect as a classics rider for the Ardennes classics and M-SR and Lombardy, but with Pog, MVdP and Remco around, he’s going to have his work cut out. Another team might take a punt on him for the possibility that he wins big, but I think Ineos will expect more🤷‍♂️

Are Ineos still suffering from Frome’s big crash? Bernal got pushed into the lead role too soon, then had a lot of back problems. Then had his own big crash.
Bernal crashed Jan 2022, so too late to buy in a new rider for the year.

Froome’s crash - no. IIRC that was in the last year of his contract and they’d already decided not to renew.

Bernal’s crash - yes. After winning the Tour and the Giro he signed an extended big money contract (to 2026) and then had his crash very soon after

It also explains in the GCN piece, that despite options in Bernal’s contract, Ineos have chosen to honour paying him in full, and not reduce his pay while he was injured and recovering - although I’m sure there were win bonuses in the contract that they have not been paying.

So they have Bernal and Pidcock both on big team leader money, and no team leader.

The point Luke Rowe made on their pod was that most teams bet big on a team leader, with a contract to match. Ineos bet big on Bernal as their team leader then he rode into the back of a bus.

He’s still much better value than Froome for IPT though!

And yet IPT are managing to win races.
