Pro race chat (Tri)

Also is Laidlow going to do his traditional “not very good until Kona then very good” season

What’s the beef between AB & Laidlow or were the commentators just trying to add flavour to a dull race?

Something to do with being late for a joint interview ?

So yeah what you said !

According to the comms they were supposed to be doing a joint interview but Laidlow kept AB waiting then eventually didn’t turn up at all. Whether there actually is any beef due to this who knows

It’s not all negative

I don’t know, I think it is all negative for the T100.

The athletes were great sure, but the event was shit.

Champagne corks would have been popping in Ironman HQ. Visuals of the event were terrible, 15 DNF across the 40 pro’s.

Some of the other venues look more ‘exciting’ but then even London is that godforsaken course around the Excel, so no guarantee that they will be on race day.

Hard to see it doing anything other than withering on the vine when even events which looked great first up like Collins Cup couldn’t carve out a permanent place.

Who pays the PTO?

If it’s advertising revenue, as an athlete I’d be looking at a break clause. All that promised money could have evaporated after the advertising execs saw it.

VC backed by various including Discovery Channel and Michael Moritz (Welsh born billionaire) who was one of the original backers of Collins Cup

The super league/supertri certainly improved their offering from where they started. There were some duff races and crappy broadcasts from them. Hopefully the T100 will improve.

I believe a rich fella is currently backing them.

Although SuperLeague has taken the Middle East money and raced in a deserted desert the last couple of years, which doesn’t make for a great spectacle.

The Daytonna venue was great to get a race going in Covid times, closed off, no supporters. But now just looks like a training day.

Fully agree. Same with the Malibu race - whatever the history, bike and run racing round a car park next to a highway with no spectators is so dull. I’ve not watched any of the WTS racing from

My favourite Superleague event was the first one (a male only trial event) at Hamilton Island. That was fun, fast and a great looking location. Can’t remember if there were many spectators or not but that got me interested in the format as the racing was fast paced and the course pretty lumpy.

It was a super ambitious pitch really. An all encompassing series, attracting both Olympic and LC athletes and really trying to lock them in to squeeze Ironman out.

Reminds me of our IT dept at work who’d continually launch enormous projects that were going to solve everything and transform the business. Once reality bit in the form of people testing software they’d be scaled back and scaled back until either binned entirely or end up doing some minor niche part of the business.

Carlton Kirby on Pogačar “… we often worry riders are going to burn out. He nevers seems to.”

No, indeed :eyes:

It’s a joke, the commentators make it sound like it is exciting when it is clearly not

He’s trying to make the bike races a bit more competitive by taking the edge off with a warm up swim and a cool down marathon.
