You ok hun?
It’s alright. She’s not going to affect your life. She just wants a way to continue her endeavour to be the skinniest athlete on the start line. It’ll all be ok.

And do some Aldi adverts for bananas.
Dickinson beat Brownlee in all the nominated trials. Same can’t be said of Waugh v. Coldwell.
Either way, things looking a bit brighter on the men’s side, might get 3 spots for the next one. Apparently Aus and NZ have not yet declared either, similar stories of appeals going on.
to an extent same goes for Coldwell. She’s missed out on selection for 2 Olympics by fine margins so she has to look at where she goes.
Waugh beat Coldwell at the Paris test event and the Grand Final
And Coldwell beat Waugh in Cagliari, the most recent measure of form, and has actually won a WTCS race. Point being it’s not as clear cut as Dickinson v. Brownlee which would only go to Brownlee on nostalgia and a hope of capturing former glories.
I would think that the Waugh-Coldwell choice would have been harder than Brownlee-Dickinson. Both ladies have shown great form over the last year or so, but JB has been lacking any winning form despite a close 2nd in Madrid last year at the Euro champs.
The appealling athletes are either too shit to be there, or didn’t bother racing enough to earn the 3rd place, either way it’s their fault surely.

Dave Scott said, a couple of years ago, that he thinks JB will be a fantastic middle distance athlete. Don’t have the link but surpass anything his brother could achieve above middle distance.
The SC choice seems hard. I guess they thought realistically who can podium. I may be wrong but SC always seems a consistent top 10-er with few winning conversions.
I think I have made it clear I have more sympathy on the women’s side. Did GB even get a 2nd men’s spot by right or just through relay qualification? When JB committed to Paris there really was no-one else on the horizon, there are now at least a couple coming through.
A bit of proof reading before posting may be useful for her next time.
She is biting the hand that feeds her. Sadly every federation across Europe prefers the marketable athlete. It’s unlucky for those that have competitors around them, unlike other countries that only have the 1 or 2 viable athletes. She’s still got another Olympic cycle in her, Jess was 33 at the last olympics.
It’s heartbreaking when they’ve worked so hard for it. But it’s the reality they need to learn to live with too.
I see JB is reserve for the men, but can’t find anything on who the women’s reserve is. Given SCs comments on selection she may not want to be a reserve.
My thoughts exactly, nearly as bad as me on here.
She’s upset so reacting rather than reflecting for a few days, totally understandable I reckon, although I don’t think it is advisable. I suspect they won’t be feeding her after this season so probably no loss in that regard.
Pure conjecture but I assume she has been overlooked as a medal contender on the basis she is not going to win a running race against anyone likely to be front pack, so unless she’s in a 2up breakaway with Duffy she’s not medaling (and BT want a big pack with Potter in it, so no wild card up the road thankyou).
And she’s not going to fix her run over the next 4 years, so it would seem she’s not part of BT plans anymore. As @pacha says, I suspect she leaves BT funding next year, will be interesting to see if she leaves tri altogether.
Shes a wet runner, maybe its about being competitive and a 80k non drafting bike is not playing to her strengths?
You’re right and I know I’m wrong. It’s just what appears to be wasted talent through bad decision making. But Christ, what do I know? This is definite armchair general activity on my part. I just wish she had the opportunity for the success she deserves.
Athletes and other performing artists. I am conflicted in that I used to believe in the necessary elitism to find the best, but life is teaching me differently. I think we need a better way to avoid the boom or bust career choices they have to make full stop - they should have a clear career path that allows for the ambitious to succeed and supports those that don’t. A bit like any other career.
TBH it’s an almost impossible task for any triathlon federation to write down a set of selection criteria that is fool-proof for any scenario.
At the end of the day the moving parts (highly fragile high performance athletes, cancelled events, form etc.) make it almost impossible. I think they way they make the automatic criteria very tough to achieve helps, in that anyone meeting that is almost certainly a good choice.
Coldwell’s argument seems to boil down to an interpretation of the word ‘priority’. To me you can see why the federation put that there, as ideally you want a race where all your selection hopefuls compete against each other, and they all ensure they’re peaking for that race as much as they can. But you can’t ignore what’s happened in the previous 12 months either. I just think this is one of those 51/49 decisions. The margins in that Calgiri were too small to be definitive
I’d love for Tom or Sophie to suggest an alternative, rather than just saying it’s broken
