Last round the first mark!
She’s done well to bring it back though!
She really has. Back to the front pack again now.
British Triathlon making no friends trying to get her DQ for swimming too far.
I guess their argument is she would have swim even further without the jet ski guy interfering. But feels pretty tenuous
Yep, will be really harsh. It’s possible the jet ski riders were acting out of a safety consideration too.
I guess in an extreme case you could argue she wouldn’t have corrected, gone around the wrong buoy and been DQ.
But best athlete won, it’s not a good look to try and win by getting your competition DQ’d
Not that the athlete didn’t know the course, and received outside assistance to put them on the correct course?
It is for Outside Assistance that the protest has been lodged
Yeah, so any outside assistance is a rule violation, so technically right if she did receive some.
What a bunch of arseholes for trying it though…
Original result stands
As it should.
This wasn’t a question of BTF being arsey, but a test of the rules, and if it had led to a DQ for Beaugrande then so be it. Should CB have been offered assistance to get her back on line? Yes and no. Yes - it came from a member of the event team which is allowable. No - it stretched that relationship to being non-allowable in that the athlete should know the course.
Similar in some ways to the Spanish protest of Brownlee helping Brownlee in Cozumel as Spain lost the title as a result. The incident wasn’t covered by the rules which led to a change of the rule.
Maybe this one will??
Anyhoo - correct result imho - CB was by far the best athlete on the day.
Men’s race is now on, on about lap 3 of the bike.
Summary
Front pack of 5 with Bergere and Wilde. Yee is in the chase pack.
I believe he needs to finish 6th, so may be ok even if the front pack stays away?
This is turning into quite an interesting race.
Assume Yee could still run down some in the front group if he’s feeling OK.
Cracking win for Wilde and brilliant for Alex as WC.
Considering Yee was only 1:28 down at the finish and 1:39 behind off the bike, if he had made the front pack the final run would have been a hell of the show down
Didn’t get to watch the mens race, but read that Hugo Milner had the fastest run, sub 29?
yep - 28:47 vs Yee 29:17 and Wilde at 29:29
