Interesting comment: No road based events, road cycling, marathon, triathlon that were previously free to spectate. Does that hint that the reason is security and safety costs, securing an open venue with no paying or ticketed spectators v. managing a stadium where the crowds are more predictable, and paying.
Yeah, there’s too many competitions and although some athletes want to race for Scotland, Wales etc I just don’t think it’s worth the cost and organisation.
Yeah seems a bit outdated these days. Half the competitions the standard is pretty low (relative obviously). No other country seems to want to foot the bill anymore.
Half of the big names don’t compete due to other priorities. Suppose it is a good pathway to the next level of competition.
Finished watching the Noosa triathlon, nice grass roots sort of feel to it. Wonder how hard it would be to stream a local tri with interesting commentary in the UK?
