who is he?
It’s Valterri Bottas - F1 driver and tiff cromwell’s other half.
ah - OK. I don’t follow F1 but know his name but not what he looks like.
A big graveller as well
McNamee has announced he’s retiring and last race is this weekend, always flew under the radar a bit because of other bigger names. But some excellent performances at Kona.
He always comes across as a really good bloke.
T100 Dubai women just on to the bike after a swim in 30C water
T100 men’s race is on, Brownlee having a great run in 4th and closing in on Kyle Smith with 4k to go.
“I just shit myself…can you not focus on my ass?”
Such a glamorous sport
I watched a 15 minute highlights of the womens race yesterday and it wasn’t overly exciting - I mean they didn’t even show Knibb make that quote! (which I saw on insta earlier - most amusing).
Watched the first 10 minutes of the mens race live earlier - it made me laugh when Brownlee’s walk on music was “I get knocked down, then get up again…” He also “lost” his swim cap early on in the swim - which Frodeno was amused by calling Alistair “the old dog” who’s been around for a long long time and knows how to play the rules to his advantage - suggesting that he’d “lost” his hat in the 30+ degree water
I then watched the rest of the race (skipping through a fair bit) this afternoon. Seeing a nutrition bottle go flying on a speed bump when it’s been fixed in with an elastic band to stop that happening. Doh!
The run was exciting and I was happy to see Brownlee finish third. David MacNamee also raced well in his final triathlon after recently announcing his retirement - they had a little interview with him after the race which was good.
Finally, watching the overall T100 world championship prize giving presentation - there were probably about 50 people there. The pyrotechnics, stage and heavy trophies all look good - they just needed a crowd.
Yes, barely any crowd which makes it so flat.
I was betting that AB would peter out this year then retire; but that was decent.
If he gets a full winter in** hey be pointy end competitive next year
**he won’t of course
Always the case in these ME locations isn’t it? Great for them to put on as there’s lots of space and money grants them the ability to host on roads etc. But nobody is interested in sport to go down and watch!
But PTO will claim there were 5000* odd people racing this weekend won’t they or something like that. Part of the course went past a bike transition which was pretty big and there were a handful of bikes still hanging so there was some sort of age group race going on today. I guess after racing (early in the morning?) then people don’t want to hang around outside and boil whilst watching 20 pro’s taking part.
*either it was PTO or Superleague last year that somehow managed to host a 5/10k race or something which made their attendance numbers for the whole event look impressive.
Yes there was an age group race, bunch of people from my club did it
Looks like 1500 did the 100k distance and 800 in the sprint. Not bad numbers at all I guess.
Solid race from AB yesterday. Shows if he can have a solid period if training he is competitive. Big IF though.
I was laughing at the commentary ‘Alistair is actually pacing this run….’
I thought Frodeno’s comment about drafting when they went into that 1st 180° was him being a cock. He knows they would concertina up like that.
At the OZ exit of the mens race it looked like two dozen waiting to start and no sign of any others, unless that was just some randoms in swimskins and not related to the AG race.
My mistake it was just VIPs, friends and families… lol
I was watching with the Mrs, I said ‘there’s absolutely no spectators’.
A few minutes later she said ‘well there’s one’. I
claimed it was just a random rather than someone actually there to watch……
