Pro race chat (Tri)

Shame that Knibb gets more media attention for her accident :grimacing::poop: than for any racing endeavours!

You could say its a “sh1t show”

Really interesting chat between Vincent Luis and Johnny Brownlee covers a lot of ground and they’re both quite open.

Ali Brownlee just posted his retirement.

The right time, and glad he went out with a podium.

That’s interesting! I wonder what he has lined up?

Wasn’t he on/running for some Olympic athlete’s council thing a while back? I’m guessing he’ll try to enter into the administrative side of the sport in some way?

He’s on the IOC Athletes Commission and he and Jonny now run Brownlee Sports an event company which runs Helvellyn Tri

Don’t they have a training company as well? I’m guessing that’s a brand thing with coaches working for them.

Feels right though, his body has had a battering over the years and he’s probably not going to get a podium at Kona/Nice now.

Back to med school :older_man: ?

I think that was his thinking back when he was asked his plans at the Beijing Olympics in '08.

I can see him doing some gravel racing

It’s Bucko, Non and Varga and Nick Harris, who seems and experienced coach.

Yeah he said back then he would, but definitely can’t imagine it now

The GOAT of short distance triathlon??

I think so, and no super shoes for a lot of his peak years.

Clearly the GoaT of short course. But would Yee go to no.1 with another Olympic gold - he’d be on 2 golds 1 silver individually and 1 gold 1 bronze plus ??? in MTR.

He’s not changed the sport like AB but if Olympic medal hauls are your guide……

I look at that and I suddenly realise how privileged I was to have been involved in French D1 racing in 2012 & 2013. Just took for granted the athletes that were around, I focussed on making sure “my” girls were doing ok. It was a good time to be around it all.

Greatest Brownlee performance? London 2012? Kitzbuehl?

I’d go for Leeds 2016. Drilled the swim front pack then scorched through T1 and up the 400m climb.

He then sat up, inventoried the break group that had clung onto him and slowed them up sufficiently for JB to bridge. Once JB was in he drove the group to a race decisive move, then scorched through T2 and first 2km of the run to seal his win. A world class ITU race bent and shaped to one man’s will.

I was a Run TO at that event and had to shadow the last runner on a MTB. He decided to jump on the back of the 2 Brownlees as they came past him up The Headrow - they were on Lap 2, he was on Lap 1. They were running uphill so quick I had difficulty staying with them - as it happened the last runner backed off after a while and thankfully as I was knackered.

To see them ride the course around Leeds city centre was a joy - their bike handling on some of the tight corners at speed was top notch.

There’s a good write up by John Levison on Tri247 of Alastair’s legacy

I agree with John, Stockholm 2013 is the one for me
