Crash for MVR apparently
Across the line for Aernouts solid pace and lead he’s got to be happy with that but Riel is on for a sub 2:40 run…
Edit 2:39:38 puts him in the danger zone for the IMWC next year I think
With KB and Gustav committing to Ironman next season, if they are on form and you throw folks like Van Riel into the mix, with Lange, Ditlev, Laidlow etc. Nice should be an absolute fireworks display hopefully.
EDIT: and Chevalier on that course
I would like to see Jonny give middle distance a proper go next year.
Isn’t Wilde looking at T100 a bit more seriously too?
Rvb will be in the mix at Nice as well. He’s a local and did well there last year, as well as a decent spot in Kona this year.
I can’t believe neither Ali nor Johnny will be at IM Leeds. Just seems wrong.
I’m sure Ali will be there in some capacity, even if it’s just handing out medals.
He’s after a T100 invite - in his chat with Vincent Luis he said as much, but was quite realistic and said that he won’t have the power on the bike to be competing for podium realistically, but hoping to be competitive.
Some talk on PTN about significant rumours that Ironman are seriously considering having the men back in Kona next year rather than Nice.
Not sure how I feel about that from a Personal point of view having already qualified for Nice. I quite liked the idea (and price) of racing in Nice rather than Kona. I’d not booked any travel or accommodation yet so I’ll not loose out if they do change it (if I withdraw and get a refund). I’ve said for a while that I’d not go back to Kona and could do without this development testing my resolve.
That would be a real shame. I hope it works out for you.
Hmmm, assume AGers and pros are already qualifying for Nice slots, and nice has a contract to 2026.
I wonder if they’re discussing the post 2026 hours plan?
Mark does love the rumour mill. And I love listening to it. One thing mentioned was the thought of running Kona on two consecutive Saturdays.
One problem with two large split races at the same venue is that the demand for accommodation was so great it pushed the prices right up. I guess that’d still happen to an extent with races a week apart.
Yes you’d imagine most people would either arrive early or stay late to spectate the ‘other’ race so accomodation apocalypse/totally overrun Kona again.
Would they tolerate all the race week stuff on consecutive weeks?
Maybe they’ll go for a 3-4 week separation as for the Nice/Kona double now?
GTB won the Bahrain 70.3, her debut I think.
3:56. No idea how that rates against other female pro’s.
Field looked a bit…. Sparse. 8 female Pros in the race.
Caroline Pohle in 3rd has had some good 70.3 results this year, she won the European 70.3 champs beating Kat Matthews IIRC
And her chappie Vincent won the men’s race too! Nice Xmas bonus for those two!
I saw on the tracker that she was in the front group at the end of the bike. Looking at the the splits she had a good battle with 2nd place finisher Tanja Neubert - beating her by 22 seconds at the end. GTB’s half marathon was 1:14:28.
For a debut 70.3 and the first time she’s raced on a TT bike (I think) that’s a mighty fine start to middle distance racing.
I came here to post that.
Just seen the run split, under 67 - short run? If not that’s rapid.
Thought we had a SPOTY thread, but will put it here.
I see Alex Yee has been nominated for SPOTY. Did his Olympics win really hit the general public or more a reflection of what live sport the BBC has rights to these days?
Of the others on the list, Sarah Storey would be more a lifetime achievement award, Keely Hodgekinson dominant in maybe a bit of a fallow year, but Luke Littler would seem to be the break out star. He seems to have elevated the whole sport and is not the flash in the pan that Raducanu may end up being.
Usual ‘not a sport’ and ‘not a personality’ comments aside.
