That … or Sam Bloody Long.
That would be my worst case scenario ever. So unbelievably irritating.

They had a massive thing for Cody Beals at one point, he’s turned out to be an absolute pup! Been quietly forgotten and the new squeeze Sam LOng got talked up instead.
Sam Long is so damn American I’m surprised he;s not called Todd, or Buck, or Sam Long Junior…agree that would be dreadful.
If you take away all the ‘Yo, Yo, Yo’ from Sam Long I don’t mind him but that’s the crux of him.
He’s a walking, talking star spangled banner!
When I see Sam Long I just think of Sloth from the Goonies!
Ouch
Sam Long III
That got me thinking.
If you started with your wheels in phase, ignoring the obvious like wheelies, wheelspin, skids etc, would they stay in phase over the course of a ride?
I’m guessing they wouldn’t as your front and rear wheels don’t follow exactly the same line when cornering so they would gradually move out of alignment.
I’d imagine there would be a slight difference where the front wheel turns and the rear is dragged around.
I base this on nothing scientific, just speculation!
Wheels move out of phase for a variety of reasons - different pressure hence different rolling radius, drive wheels v. non-drive causing small amount of wheel slip, different distances travelled through corners. It takes surprisingly short time for them to get out of phase (like metres, not miles).
If I could pick who one it would be Alistair. Firstly because he is from my current neck of the woods and have seen about a fair bit and he always comes across alright. Secondly, ST would explode and that would be hilarious.
ETA: Also, interesting that in th build he isn’t getting a mention, well very little. Maye they all know something
Kyle Smith said in an interview with the PTO that Ali was looknig dangerously hungry and ‘angry’ for these champs. As in seriously focussed and chomping at the bit
He doesn’t need to be angry and chomping at the bit. He needs to stay asleep for the first 7 hours and wake up with 10K to go.
I’d forgotten he won the 70.3 there, beating Sanders and Kienle - but for the Norwegians it’s almost a rematch
Come on, you
the
AB is quite small framed and must be very light for a guy his height and I imagine his power to weight is very good compared to some of the bigger built guys, in relative terms of course, The hills on the run should hold no fear for him with his run background. I think Gustav and sensible pacing are his biggest problems if he is properly fit.
As an aside, I hate athletes coming out with ‘I was sick/injured’ after a bad performance. Just say so beforehand. I really don’t think you give the opponents a psychological advantage in anyway. It always sounds like a bit of an excuse to me.
I’d like to see it, but the Oceanside collapse doesn’t inspire confidence. Well the fact it was a fade rather a collapse is the problem to my mind with the three athletes passing him. We’re used to a detonation by him which indicates a tactical error, this seemed like fitness.
Anyway, it’s nice to have an unpredictable WC - I hope they all forget their other priorities, race well, and the new champ is a deserving one!
Brownlee was ill before Oceanside
I didn’t see an athlete going all in for the win. He seemed to be running to a pace/plan and seemed profoundly unbothered when he was caught/passed - the AB we know half kills himself before allowing the pass - and then strolled across the line, 55 sec behind, patted a clearly spent 2nd and 3rd on the back, and casually walked away. He seemed content after.
That is all very un-Brownlee like behaviour, small chance he has mentally checked out of the sport and can’t hurt himself any more, but maybe he is becoming the smarter athlete he needs to be at LC, and is saving himself for when it matters.
We shall see on Saturday…
