After listening to Joe Skipper on the OA podcast, apparently Iden should have cracked an hour ago.
7:42:57 with a 2:34:51 run
That is scary!
Blum racing as well in a few weeks at Cozumel I think.
Remember that was a tough swim - Iden swam 58mins. He could easily swim 10 mins quicker….
I’m guessing he ran very measured as well, playing it ‘safe’.
Yeah. Exactly. A “measured” run which is the second fastest split EVER
Also makes the trirating top 5 for fastest race times ever. And with the swim that, as has been said, was c10mins slow due to conditions.
Take 10mins off his time, and he’s just set the fastest time ever by 5 minutes on debut
And at the end of a season in which his main focus was the Tokyo olympics, followed by the 70.3 worlds.
Men’s World Championship long course racing may be extremely dull for the next 5 years*
*unless he struggles in Kona heat/humidity.
Idens comments after the race :
“I think everybody says after their Ironman ‘Im never gonna do this again’ – I kind of feel that way now it was too hard for me,” he admitted.
“Give me a couple of hours and then maybe I change my mind but right now, no this is too much.”

Finally, caught up on this race this morning. Great race. Not much drama but the tension was there.
Those finish line comments from Iden, not what you’d expect to hear from the winner!
Cozumel this weekend i think.
Keen to see how Blum gets on in his debut. Looks like a pretty decent field if they all turn up. Some long standing pros like Weiss, Wurf, Wild, Nilsson, Kienle (actually looks like Kienle is in SA) , as well as some of the newer chaps like Heemeryck and Blum.
Just caught up with the Iden / LIONel race
Echo exactly what’s said above.
A 58 min swim is slow.
These guys are easily ten minutes faster.
Plus, like what’s said above, he was barely running that marathon
1:16 first half, 1:18 second - pfft.
Nobody likes a show off
That’s a debut for the ages, for sure.
Everyone else has to now be racing for second, right?
It was a nice cool day in FL for it, so guess every other pro is now hoping he struggles a bit in the heat….
I hope Jan is preparing to give it one last epic heave next year to show the young pretender, it could be epic.
Think they need an Uber swim/bike group (Jan, AB etc) to either get some time on him or have him lead the chase group.
Maybe Iden will ‘do a Lange’ and get a little Norwegian freight train running to deliver him to the start of the mara
That’ll get the slowtwitchers’ heart rates up!!!
I actually think Lionel is being pencilled in for the job. Note he’s coached by Iden’s brother, so ‘part of the team’ now.
Ruth Astle wins IMSA.
Blummenfelt in a large from pack in Cozumel.
The swim times ![]()
Seems like he’s blown it apart a bit over the last 70k.
Currently scheduled to be starting the run with total race time of about 4:45. He could destroy the world best time if he holds it together. Frodos tri battle time is broadly in range which is crazy given what they did to minimise time there (both transitions being so so short)
Current assisted apparently. Seems he and Nilsson have split the bike apart, would be interesting to know who the aggressor was.
I would have been surprised if it wasn’t KB. And the fact he’s in and out of T2 before Nilsson finishes would suggest that’s correct. Nilsson looked to be hanging on at the penultimate time check, as he’d dropped 4s off the pace
Anyway, he is out of T2 with the race clock still showing 4:45:xx. Insane for a first go, especially if he has set the pace on the bike, even with the current assisted swim
Starts the run, and through the first split with an estimated finish of 2:27. He’s taking it easy then
