Has this year changed the focus of Ironman training…sounds like we haven’t lost too much off the swim but I know I am biking better and running at least as well ?

To be fair 1.05-1.10ish is a good benchmark for most adults. That extra 5 minutes or so to go sub hour, 1.40 / 100 to 1.30 / 100 is a bigger jump than say 1.50 - 1.40 and would require more time and someone who knows what that are doing giving regular input. 1.30 - 1.20 is even harder and the difference between a good AOS and a child swimmer.

I swam at 1:01 pace for forty six mins in 2019…

I was sick at 47 mins and couldn’t move my shoulders for 3 days… t1 in that condition would have taken about … a weekend… ish.

Going to work on this in 2021.

Both of these are true for me. I’m optimistic of being a significant amount better in both bike and run this coming year (if races go ahead). But to get back to my 1:01 swim times will need pools opening in mid Jan and no set backs. Yet my unstructured OW during lockdown 1 shows I should be able to swim about a 1:10-1:12ish without much swim time.

If I was truly going for an all time pb/target time goal, then that 10mins would be hard to swallow/make up, but for this coming year, I think I just have to not stress over it

I always considered myself a pretty lousy swimmer - no competitive swimming ackground and didn’t get much beyond a few lengths as a teenager. Did minimum possible to get through an IM swim and was typically 1.15-1.20ish until one year I spent 8 weeks working in China before an IM, and trained in a 15m hotel pool every day doing zip-ups and chicken wings as my shoulder flexibility was lousy. Swam 1.05 at my next IM which shocked the hell out of me.

Is that a cheese wrap left in a warm pocket?

Not after dark it aint warm  I toasted them like a quesadilla. Left them in a bag by transition (it was 20laps on bike so went passed every 20 minutes)

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Got the tat, water bottle, bag, towel, bike sticker, watch, cap. Still not telling enough people you’re and ironman. Perspex house number. Perfect

Why stop at a cheap perspex job, when you could commission a stonemason to fashion a couple of mdots for your driveway pillars.

I doubt the type of person wanting to put an mDot Perspex house number (or any Perspex house number come to that) on their house has “driveway pillars”.

I was going to get a perspex number for our house. Are they naff?

Of course, unless they have an Mdot

Oh, well I’ll get with an MDot then. Thanks, dodged a bullet there

They suit more modern houses; I have seen some decent ones around. In Germany of course

Our house has a serving hatch. We’re more Bless This House than Downton Abbey

I’m on an ST hate day… However, spent some time on Tri-Talk instead of doing a planned run. So maybe I am invested in TT, however, loads of interesting threads, nice to see some new names. Then go over to ST, its so painfully boring, crap, rubbish… why does it still exist?

As far as I can tell for the last year, TDS mainly
