Quality Slowtwitch/IMJ Threads

I see Pubes has returned and saw fit to announce his own presence with a fanfare thread to ask him anything. How do these people get this “celebrity” status from posting various crap on a public forum, reminds me of the Riptide guy on IMJ who became a legend in his own lunchtime.

At least that Kiley bloke is actually a pretty decent triathlete, unlike the bloke who blamed a spurious riptide for not making the cut-off.

Keep thinking I need to rejoin IMJ to catch up on some of these plonkers but my bullshit filter is full already from work, not sure I can take any more.

most of the “celebrity” idiots are now polluting Simon Wards “coaching” group. full of proper 1 ironman and Im a coach types now. I left but he noticed whilst i was in the middle of my L3 so rejoined to not upset the clique so to speak. Ive muted the group though. IMJ I’m on as my coaching page as my personal profile is banned.

What did you do to get banned, suggest that they might like to learn to swim?

:joy: I’m not 100% sure as when i messaged the admin guy he blocked me! so did that janet. Still not sure but no great loss. I’ve had a couple of troll accounts since to keep them on their toes when i’m bored. Ryan Rookie was one of my favourites until the faceless police closed the account :wink:

It does. It wasn’t against him or his group either. I’d quit most tri and Zwift groups as they are just a nightmare full of egos and are time vampires if you get sucked in to discussions.Full of “experts” who want argue about every minor detail on the sport like it really matter at most IMJ type levels.

Does Simon Ward deliver the BTF syllabus then? Just wondered when you made the comment about you leaving the group during your L3, and him noticing.

He’s one of the main guys delivering and assessing the L3. I was invited by him to join the group a couple years back and it was really good with some decent coaches on there and good discussions but he promoted it on IMJ and it really did turn into IMJ Lite which was a shame.

Surely the advice is simple for most MOP/BOP AGers…

Men = swim more
Women = bike more

Probably more simple than that! all training is simple, but simple is boring, simple doesn’t look good on social media and simple doesn’t sell you to the “super coaches”. I got sucked in previously, one of the precursors to getting out of a lot of groups. Apparently I was risking people’s lives when I suggested 15hrs a week is too much for an average age grouper with a family, especially to just finish an ironman do 7 - 10 consistently. Apparently it’s impossible on less than 10 hours and people could die! This was ironically on a Zwift group where people are too scared to actually ride their bikes!

Was that on Zwift riders? I think I saw that :rofl::rofl:

Yeah, I averaged 10-11h a week up until my Ironman peak block (4x16h) and that included bike commuting. Haven’t got close to 10h since Hamburg - schools holidays init. Furiously trying to keep my CTL above 90 after dropping from 120 at the end of my IM training.

probably was, its worse than IMJ as its full of really dumb septics :wink:

and you are performing, certainly compared to someone dodging cut offs. I have been helping a woman with her swim lately and I did my usual “bad business” and helped her with training for free! I cut her hours and she performs better as she is getting more rest and not stressing about fitting sessions in when she actually has adulting to do! She just enjoys racing and has no performance goals so why stress it! Its not like the kids aiming for academy where we have performance targets that arent swim at 3min /100 m, cycle at about 14mph and walk 26miles :wink:

Yes, if you take into account the long bike and epic transitions in Hamburg, you’re still talking sub 10:30 for me (on an accurate course) on a hot & windy day which is not too bad now I’m closer to 50.

I’d like to execute an Ironman well again though; got a little closer this year than the last few. Just need to sort the run cramps.
