I’m putting this in here because you know, social media innit but I don’t quite get this. I do watch Ben’s clips (bought a shirt to support his channel) he can be annoying AF but that’s not the point here.
He got injured and did some cycling to stay fit, he’s not a stranger to it but it very rarely features. i think he has a Wattbike at home. In this clip he tries a sportive and is ‘first back’ and the numbers look ok to me but he also said he left last (so I assume he overtook everyone)
8.16 in shows his Strava

and in this clip (1.40 in) he says he didn’t make the cut off for the 312? He does say he faffed at aid stations trying to get gluten free vegan food that doesn’t cast a shadow but are the cut offs that tight that a guy that came home first in a 76mile sportive couldn’t make cut off?

Didn’t take long for the Richard Strickland thread to disappear from ST

Sad news indeed

Looks like Reddit sub is the new IMJ  I couldn’t work out what the issue was at all, then it dawned on me, are people leaving these buckets in transition?

Just caught up on the TR forums. Part of me is shocked, part of me is thinking this is just things people do over there nothing to do with cycling.

There was a specific post about RS on ST that got taken down. I was amazed it lasted as long as it did.

Am I missing something? I assume not the Richard Strickland from ‘The Shape of Water’

Are we talking Colin? Strickland linked to recent murder of cyclist, love triangle thing?

just wow, I’d missed that story.

Sorry, Colin Strickland. It was to do with the Mo Wilson murder but someone put up a thread basically saying whilst he hasn’t been charged, he’s still an asshole and more complicit than the law says he is.

Empfield somewhat agreed and I think in the distance, a lawyer’s phone rang.

Yeah the insinuation is that he winds them up and lets them go. We have no way of telling if that is true, and it sounds like the kind of thing that would be very hard to prove, and also like the kind of thing someone with a personal bias would say. So who knows.

Of course, on any US medium the obvious conclusion that love triangles plus socially encouraged ownership of firearms is a bad idea gets immediately shouted down and/or shut down.

Any sign of the one who supposedly killed Mo yet? Been out the loop for a couple of days so not too sure where we are with this whole mad saga.

My FTP is roughly the same as yours and I regularly hit over 1kW when I’m outside and dicking about on the Sunday rides :man_shrugging:t4:

Yeah, I’ve got no top end

Off-topic/old chat, but 12 months ago I hit PB around 1100W sprint. Don’t think I could hit that any more despite tripling my bike training volume.
Not looked at swim logs properly either but do think I’ve failed to progress speed there too despite increasing training 3x, although that’s a deeper question for post-Cairns as to how effective swimming has been.

Edit to add:
Hang-on, I knew something didn’t feel right. @Poet I’m sure you’ve previously talked about easily holding 200-250W but having no top end or ability to do FTP tests?

On Any Given Sunday dear boy

“Oh, Thomas won’t come on this ride, he just likes going West where it’s flat and he can go fast”

Erm, yeah, I’ll come.
And I’ll crush all of your souls and spirits.
Just because I don’t like hills, doesn’t mean I can’t beat you up them all, then down them, and between them.

(ETA: I’m crap at descending, but if I’m the first up, I’m the first down. And I am used to riding alone, so can drop most of them on the flats, too - rode seven people off my wheel one weekend when I’d been told off for asking why people were messing around so much, stopping every bloody 30 minutes)

So whilst I can’t do FTP tests, if someone tells me I can’t do hills, I’ll make sure completely crush them up a climb I know I can destroy them on.
Only I’m allowed to say “I don’t do hills”

Everyone has a power meter.
No fecker knows how to use them.

Everyone knows the route by Friday PM.
I study it, work out where I can unleash 5 minute MP, or 20 minutes at 320W, then smash them all to tiny little pieces.

Not sure how “accurate” 5 second power is?
But five seconds isn’t really “top end” is it?
You probably need a bit more than that for a sprint?

Santa Ride:

And the two 200km rides on consecutive Sunday’s:
