Rapha Festive 500

One of the reasons this might be more achievable than the Festive 500 is that it should take less time if I use my very local hill. The problems are that

  • the hill is only 203mtrs & I’ll have to do it 44 times…Local Legend here I come :upside_down_face:
  • I’ve not done back to back running days for yonks

At least I’m not doing it sat on a Zwift pumping out 39km/h for 130W

Haha, yes exactly.

I had a friend comment on a ride a while back, as the average speed was like 37kph, in Zwift, and he was really impressed. I responded to say that it’s not quite the same as real life!! Like you say, under 200w, zipping along at high 30s in the warm (ish) and dry. My ride on Sunday was apparently 100kms!

The draft dynamics in Zwift make a huge difference if you’re riding in a pack. You can be sitting 0.5w/kg lower than the guy on the front.

I’ve never really understood the appeal of riding 100km in the desert on a steady group ride, other than to clock up easy mileage.

I did think that when I saw @gingerbongo 's ride on Sunday, and the time he did it at (0604) in the shed
I think I’d rather be sat watching those awful YouTube shorts with my daughter (she’s into people making Subway sandwiches and something called “Dairy Queen” where they makes cakes from ice cream)

However, I say this as someone who rode 25 laps of Volcano for 100km, then spent eight hours the following day ticking off routes (with a break between each route), so again, I am not one to talk!

haha - to be fair i don’t care what’s on the screen, i don’t pay attention to it. The first 2 hours i did from a fixed workout (Hunter’s challenge Week 3 Long), whilst ticking off a long(er) 70km route on Watopia. It was way beyond my fitness level though, so i couldn’t have done the last hour. I carried on until i completed the route, and then used the 100km thing just as a carrot to keep me on the bike for a bit longer. I couldn’t care less what the mileage says in real life.

When i look at my year on Veloviewer i default to time now and not distance to give me an idea of training across the years. Especially as it’s a mix of running and cycling now. Though obviously it’s much easier to do 3hours of cycling vs running.

Yeah, I can’t comment as I’m quite happy spending a couple of hours spinning through the desert :flushed:

Hmmm…

Ski trip to France cancelled.
Haven’t been on a bike since September.
Weighed in at 100.1kg this morning.
Never done the Festive 500 before.

Maybe this should be my year?

I’m starting Monday, for a pre-500.
Then I’ll do the proper one, too.

1Kkm in 14 days :+1:t3:

I’ve decided to sack off my Everest thing.

I’d found myself telling mates I couldn’t go for a run/cycle with them as I had stuff on which is ridiculous. We have enough restrictions atm without me imposing more on myself.

Anyway, had a lovely run this morning .
