Not sure which excuse to try pull out. Could be I’m still at work, that we have our family over for two weeks for first time in two years, or that I’d much prefer 4C over 42C to train in.
But instead, here’s me on Wednesday at the end of 100x100 off 1:30, no aid, in the rain, averaging 1:20. I’m the one with the high elbow, not the ones swinging all over the place
I could probably have got away with riding in all weathers in the past, but Mrs W won’t let me out of the house with my bike if there’s even the slightest hint of rain or ice until the doctor tells me my collarbone is 100% fixed. Hopefully the CT scan next week will tell me that. The ride on the 24th was only the 2nd outdoor ride since the op.
Oh and at 50, I’m over riding in miserable conditions just for the sake of a virtual badge
Haha, yep, once I turned 50 I have gone completely soft and resorted to the dreadmill today! In my defence I was also trying not aggravate my chest\lungs etc. with the cold and damp too soon.
Really isn’t worth the risk these days on ice etc., even the low sun on wet roads is dangerous with the driving abilities of some people.
To be fair, I think 40 was probably the beginning of the slide. It was just unfortunate that I had an accident that resulted in my first broken bones and my first proper lay-offs due to injury 3 days after my 50th birthday
Yeah - I’ve got up “late” (dog slept until 0710 ) and need to be back for 10am, so just gonna hop onto a Rapha500 ride after losing some weight
No Rapha500 rides, so doing the Fondo
EDIT: amazing what an 18kg overnight diet does
NEW YEARS DAY: Up at 6am and it’s bucketing it down Wrong kit laid out, as forecast wrong, waiting to go on Zwift, gravel will have to wait until tomorrow (when the forecast is utterly FREEZING )
Right, I’ve had a rubbish year from a cycling and fitness point of view, so I thought I would keep the disappointment going and sign up on Strava for the Rapha Festive 500 and fail to do that, as well.
Christmas is looking a bit quieter, both kids now adults, apparently, so I should be able to find some time to get some long rides in, without annoying the family. Loose plan is a 200k ish on Christmas Eve, starting super early, another 200k on the 27th or 28th, and then the last 100km in the last day or so, depending on weather etc. No Zwift cheating; all old school and outdoors. Bring on the failure!
