Running Shoes

I had pairs of the red/green and blue/yellow. Had to glue the toe box as they always came away there. Mind you they were the first brand to offer resoling so a fresh tread every couple of years

Walsh were my very first pair of trail shoes. Bought them about 20 yrs ago when over on holiday. Got them a running shop in Bath .

They were good for hard packed trails

Got a pair myself but mostly just for real fell races as I find the grip better.

When I first started running years ago I got ankle pain after a while. Went to a physio who said I had the flattest feet he has ever seen. Referred me to podiatrist and I had custom orthotics made. Never had pain after that. I always bought neutral running shoes as the orthotics were set from a neutral position.

The orthortics have worn out and the podiatrist I went to has gone so would have to go somewhere else and start again.

Wont be running the same distances I was before so wondering if I should just get support or motion control shoes instead?

Is this adult onset flat feet?

No idea. Was never seen at a younger age. Just know at late 30s have very flat feet. Could have always been that way, could be new. Not a clue.

Has anyone tried the new Vomeros? I see they’re using ZoomX foam which, given the Infinity run and Alphas are my fav shoes, I am hoping means they’ve got some cushion for the pushing.

I’ve been a massive Nike Fan boy since 2019 and my first pair of Vaporfly 4%… I recently bought another second hand pair of Alphaflys - There are always people selling cheap pairs that have done a couple of races, I pick them up for around Ā£60. The guy I bought the last pair from asked me if I was interested in a pair of first gen Hoka Carbon X, almost new for Ā£40.

I am seriously impressed, they may not be as fast as the Nike shoes, however, they do feel fast, they do bounce well, and they feel so smooth. I used to wear Hoka’s but in the end felt that they were just too spongy, the Carbon X doesn’t feel at all spongy. They are also quiet, its so peaceful running in them. Now wondering if the latest Gen Carbon X may be a better race day choice

No.

Now that’s out the way, I have the 16s which were/ate super cheap. And painful after one hour.

I would hope that like other shoes, they’ve learned their mistake and this years offering is good.

Even the bad 16s are pretty good over the shorter distances. Quality wise they look better and stay strong better than the Pegasus, and I like them for Tempo and above runs. :+1:

This is a dangerous mindset if you care about performance. But if you care about happiness…

I’d like to hear, and I think the community, your thoughts on the SCOTT SPEED CARBON RC if you get an opportunity.

Can’t comment on the Scott Speed Carbon RC.

I’ll try a quick run in the Hoka’s and see how fast they are. They are certainly much better than the Nike Tempo Next% which I think didn’t do my hamstring injury any favours.

I’ve heard Jay Grady talk about having shoes re-soled, reducing Greta tears blah blah. He got his done for nothing or a discount but he was waxing lyrical about LSR in Lancashire.

I just rang them for a quote on some Speedgoats with Vibram Megagrip and it was between £75 - £99 plus £9 p&p with a 14 wk turnaround

Yeah nah

Any recommendations for a fastish daily trainer?

I got on really well with the Nike Air Tempo NEXT% (until AirPod popped) and Saucony Endorphin Speed 2. I can’t find any available in my size, unless I resort to used on eBay, which I don’t fancy risking.

My current ones are Saucony Endorphin Speed 3s, and I haven’t enjoyed them at all.
