My grandma was called Greta.
Just thought I’d finally tell someone.

Depends what you mean by fast, if you’re starting at the Tempo Next you’re out of my league. I think the Pegasus and variants are still good for tempo pace runs. My Vomero have a bit of ZoomX in but I wouldn’t go over 10km in them.
Adidas Bostons.
Dunlop Green Flash
Topo Specter
I’ve just bought some Brooks Hyperion Max. I’d recommend, and a good alternative to the Nike Pegs.
ASICS MetaSpeed Sky+ are decent.
I use them as a training show now, as the insole has a weird texture that I can feel during an event.
Zoom fly are okay. I don’t know why this lot get all moist about them
I bought an £18 and £45 pair from eBay, both of which seem fine, but I’d not pay £150 ish for them new.
Pegasus are crap now. Killed my feet. So flat and under padded. StreakFly feel supportive
OH! If you’re not doing much distance, then StreakFly are awesome - SO LIGHT
Other than that, I’ve just got older pairs of Alpha’s and Next% that I rotate
Are they like an old school racing flat?
If so, how are the calves afterwards?
Yes, they are. But with a cut down ZoomX sole.
My calves are like adamantium, so I can’t really comment
Soz pal
For me, the worst thing about a running shoe is its interior construction. Any stitch that rubs anywhere on my foot becomes a massive headache, or a weird insole, or an upper that shifts too much/not enough. I always check the interior with my hand, as if the logo is stitched onto the instep, my feet just die ….
… I’ve not bought a pair of Saucony for over a decade due to this
Walsh the best ever fell shoe , my first ones were leather rather than syntenic. Made the trip to their factoryshop in Bolton before the days of the internet came away with a few pairs of funny colour combinations that had been made as samples
I’ve still got my Walsh trainers in the garage but rarely use them as I don’t do many fell races that require them.
yep, my last pair were mislaid by Mrs eJC some years ago, i am afraid…but they were somewhat worse for wear…
I got the wider version, the standard ones were far too narrow for me.
The thing I liked was that the upper was very porous so although water got in it also went out as quickly and wasn’t sploshing around like some shoes.
ditto…
Cheers for the responses. Some feedback on some I’ve tried:
Loved:
*Nike Zoom Fly Flyknit (I think)
*Saucony Endorphin Speed 2
*Nike Air Zoom Tempo NEXT%
Liked:
*Nike Pegasus Turbo 2 - Found these comfy, but maybe not fast fast. Were my go to after the Fly Flyknit above.
OKish:
*Streakfly - Pretty underwhelmed by these. Aren’t designed for the longer runs and I found AF/VF much faster for shorte stuff.
Disliked:
*Zoom Fly - Only had version 3, but really not impressed by it. Seemed like a lot of foam, but rather stiff so didn’t feel all that comfy for longer runs, and didn’t feel fast for me. Kind of like the Endorphin Speed 3s really.
*Nike Pegasus 37 (I think) - Big, heavy and pretty firm. Have a decennt grip so wear them in bad conditions, but generally not a fan.
Never tried any of the Adidas, Brooks or Asics - So might take a look.
The Asics Novablast 3 have good reviews, but the 4s are getting slated. That’s one of the bigggest issues I’m finding, from one version to the next a shoe can be completely nerfed.
What are they like stablity wise? I think with the AF & VF I’d have to be a little bit careful, and could be dangerous if I switch off a bit during a longer run. Obviously they are a race shoe, but I guess if stable and heavily discounted, could be an option.
Had to Gooogle these, never heard of them or even the brand!
You’re talking to someone who constantly falls over and has badly sprained both of their ankles (at different times) in the past two years
I think it was @Bob who reminded me of my predilection to tumbles
So again, poor person to ask.
Nice list
I’d recommend the ASICS, think @leahnp wouldnt, IIRC?
But they’re way more stable than the Nike equivalent.
How far are you from Bicester? Or another outlet place? Some decent deals at ChOaks sometimes
I am lucky in that I was sent a pair of their Cyclone shoes for free (mates have a running shop) otherwise I would have not known about them. I was skeptical as I like lightweight shoes and generally run in racing flats. Have tried bigger soled shoes but in the past I have never got on with them. I did a few short runs and they were OK, started doing some longer runs and the more I used them the more I liked them. I tried the specters at trail race where the rep was at and really liked them and bought a pair.
Without wanting to sound like the rep, the soles are very light pebax and the specters shape takes you to toe off quickly, as is the function of the carbon plates in super shoes, and a roomy toe box.
Team, have we had any experience on ON for running shoes (instead of the ‘lifestyle’ shoes you see everywhere?
Used to use them a lot in Oz but they squeak too much in the wet UK weather.
