I take it you watched the women’s 400 then? Truly unbelievable.
@wheezy I did watch it, but I don’t really follow the shorter distance stuff so wasn’t too familiar with who the favourites were or what target times they were heading for. Looks like her prior coach wasn’t the best sort to associate with, that is for sure.
But yes, in general I question performances that appear surprising. I know that means I am probably ruining the enjoyment of sport for myself, but certain things that look odd bother me. I tend to follow cycling and triathlon, and some of the solo breakaway performances this year have looked very strange to me.
This is huge in boxing and MMA.
We’re quite frankly the testing although improving is a joke… a decent poster who does a bit of our game reckons combat sports are were cycling was 30 years ago…!
Olympic style testing is coming in, but Boxing is corrupt to its core due to the quite ludicrous amounts of cash flying about.
DAZN a streaming service paid Saul Alvarez 276 ? million for an 11 fight deal…
Ironically he tested positive for clen… Twice…
The deal was brokered at a time when virtually any other athlete in any other sport would have still been suspended / banned.
In a sport we’re you can do physical damage to your opponent this is a disgrace, what’s even worse is the attitude of quite a few of the fans.
They literally don’t care.
The “ there all on it, let em get in with it” attitude is very sad and very very dangerous.
Any big money sport is likely to sweep as much under the carpet as is practically possible; hence so few doping sanctions in them. Occasionally there is a fall guy.
Its not just money, there is not a lot of it in triathlons, but plenty of PEDs, especially with AG triathletes
It’s good the fall guy is the top guy…!
He basically got off as they only fight every 6 months and the ban was six months…!?
If you sweep enough shit under the rug the whole world will see the bump, it’s happening already in a once great and fantastic sport.
The shenanigans that go on behind the scenes would put the mafia to shame…!
Lots of Age group dopers…?!
Be easy to hide I guess unless you were aceing the podium every time out, which for a 40-50 year old wouldn’t happen with peds and an E bike.
I’m not really sure how prevalent it is, if it is, it’s really really sad.
Everyone that beats me is on PEDs
Hmm, I still see plenty of M40 or M45’s winning outright or very close especially in triathlon, and often at local running races. Some are ex-pro’s, possibly from other sports looking for a challenge.
Jeff
With the exception of Crowie the oldies aren’t winning Branded Ironman races.
But there times seem too good to be true…?!
53? Year old won a duathlon qualifier a few years ago …! ?
Sorry, Mungo2, what I meant was that I’ve seen M40\M45’s winning the age group race outright, and many not being far off some of the pro’s in races, and beating some pro’s.
Clive Kennedy-Burn & TTowel are a couple.
Jeff
Yep often 40-45 had higher splits than some of the age groups way below.
Especially in longer races.
A guy at Oulton beat everyone in the 3 classes below him including me…
It’s only a number …
But no matter if your a podium chaser every time out, competitive relative to your age, middle of the road or avoiding cut offs using PEDS is just plain silly … no ones that bothered about your results anyway, plus your putting your health at risk for what…?
I wouldn’t disagree with that, I’d rather be very average than risk taking some of the stupid substances they take.
Jeff
Anyone who gets near the top of the age group is not average.
But as you say health first.
Watching the world champs and they had an interview with Sifan Hassan. She was very angry (her words) about all the allegations and decided to prove everyone was wrong about Salazar by running 3:51 for the 1500m and winning by ~2 secs, after destroying everyone in the 10k earlier in the week. Not sure that helped… great races to watch though!
In AG there’s loads of doping everywhere, and don’t assume that it’s only doping to win even just within the group, there’s plenty of doping just to be better, lots of people just like to cheat, or have a shortcut to their own self image.
Look at even the amount of knowledge there is on mumsnet on it

Help - someone on TriTalk is also on Mumsnet…
It’s not me btw. Apparently ‘Clen’ has a terrible aftertaste
People like to send me doping stories…
yea yea yea…
