Sean Conway Iron 102

Is it a triathlon if it’s not a race against other people? Just a thought experiment… Seems more like an excellent adventure to me. Still, good job Sean.

Interesting point! Google and Cambridge Dictionary would suggest you are right. Contest or race being the important words here.

You can have a contest against yourself and race yourself against the clock.

PS - I doubt he did either of these things

Personally, I’m mildly envious that he thought of it and not me (although, in my defence, I hate sea swimming)

Have many people swum the Menai Strait? You could do that :slightly_smiling_face:

ETA - actually isn’t very far! (400-1100m)

Very impressive to look at when the tide is coming in/out, but an easy swim if you can get the slack tide correctly timed.

In a similar vein to the Sean Conway exploits, anyone fancy a long swim? -

I know him personally, go back many years.

All I’ll say is that his public ‘persona’ is very different than in real life.

One for Blackpool… one day.

SC or RE?

My mate Sean is going to give his 102 challenge another crack in 6mths & this time he’s going to have a secret weapon.

The Secret Weapon

This time he’s going to train.

Made me smile

He’d crashed before I got myself organised enough to help out last time, will aim to be ready this time

Hopefully he’ll be locally based to us again, but I think he’ll be looking for somewhere a bit flatter.

It is pretty flat if you choose routes carefully.
It looked to me as if his main problem last time was that each day was taking too long for any meaningful recovery. Doing loops of the greenway and river path is pretty mind numbingly dull after a lap and I find all the gates a pita doing just one lap!

I’d struggle to even think about doing an Ironman for 102 days in a row nowadays

Well, I’m following him on Strava & he’s certainly putting in some solid training days with about 6mths to go until the next 102 attempt.

He’s also upping his YouTube game. I find him quite amusing & enjoy seeing familiar countryside.

He’s back on it, anyone fancy a job?
