TCS London Marathon 2025

Hmm - based on above, now I’m thinking I should enter while I have a decent GFA time! :see_no_evil:

I can enter 3peaks until 2024 even if I don’t run any qualifiers.

Made me look back at my London now.

First 5 x 5kms were:

18.50, 19.03, 18.50, 19.12, 19.29

I think my knee (pre-race injury) started really hurting about 15/16kms in. I tried to tough it out before things got messy.

20.30, 22.07, 27.59, 15.42 (for 2.2kms)

intervals.icu is great for splitting your race into chunks and analysing!!

On intervals.icu how do you split an activity into specific distances? (I’m looking at my previous marathon)

All this marathon and GFA talk is giving me really itchy feet for some grim winter training for Manchester again in April :sob: Think I’m realising I’m one of those people who needs something(s) to train for or I get really bored.

At the top where they have random intervals, click the text and it opens a pop up. Then you can add the start and end point of the interval.

I just did it manually for each one, but i;m sure there must be a way to just tell it to, say, chunk into 5km intervals.

Was looking at Manchester too. Did it last year.

Then remember, I don’t like training for maras and have promised myself to back off a bit because work/fam/tri is too much right now.

Might do Dorney olympic and see if I can get fit enough to race that well instead.

I can’t say I enjoyed all the training, its time consuming and tough. However I’ve learnt that I’d dial some bits down from the plan I followed if I did it again.

Give yourself 6 years and you too could lead the race for half a mile.

I swear I’ve seen this done before maybe a couple of years ago. Might even have been in London

Mate did it at Greenham Common 10km but does’t quite have the same kudos. That’s him ‘630’

But did he have to train for 6 years to get a Championship entry time to get to the front pen?

Friend has decided she’s going for London in April and has set her sights on a champs time of sub 3.14

Having previously said she’s done with maras :person_facepalming:

I’ve sent her to a local coach who has has taken one of my female club members from good to IM age group wins. Not sure what else I can say apart from join a club as she’s just been running round where we live mostly by herself.

David Hellard of the Bar Boy Running Podcast did it. His video is on youtube and he even wore a go pro so arguably not only did it first but better

My club captain at Ranelagh Harriers also did this. Probably circa 1986-ish? Led for the first 3 miles or so, and Brendan Foster was completely slagging him off about it. Pulled out after 5km or so and was then back in the local pub attached to the club house to watch the end of the race. Top bloke.

You’d still have to be a sub 15 min 5k runner to even get close to that now.

Yeah, winning times around then were only just dipping under 2:10, if that? Still shifting, though. Mike was a great runner.
