I was reading about Nick Bester and this lady’s name came up. Holy shit that’s some progression !
Similar trajectory to Gerda Steyn, the current dominant woman in the Comrades elites.
21 mins over 7yrs is way different to 2hrs over 3yrs
Gerda improved her Comrades time by over 2 hours in 2 years. I’d say that’s a pretty decent trajectory. I didn’t say “the same”, I said “similar”.

Thanks for posting this FP, really enjoyed reading that Really impressive lady
Gerda Steyn is a very impressive lady too…just read this
All these young fabulous ladies…feeling old and slow now.
Don’t! My running club has been amazing for motivating women over 40. It started with my friend who got a coach during lockdowns and went from a plodder 4.20 marathon to running for England vets and now has a qualification place for Chicago. And that has just snowballed to so many women. None of them are going to change the world but it’s that little impetus that helps everyone. Even the men
The forecast for next Sunday is showing temperatures in the low teens and light rain. The wind is coming from the west, so a bit of a headwind to Tower Bridge and again from Canary Wharf to Westminster
That’s pretty much what it’s been like for Manchester today and I’d be quite happy with that!
Here’s your motivation. The women doing Manchester marathon yesterday from our running club all got PBs.
Vet 45 category - she set a new club record by 4 mins - 3h22
Vet 50 - new club record by 10 mins - 3h56, next lady in that category beat her PB by 16 mins to do a 3h59.
That’s just off the back of a bit of motivation from others around them. Sadly I’ll let the side down on Sunday with my time as I won’t get a PB or near those times but it does make me think I might be capable of it one day, even as I get older.
Seems like a reasonable time for a first post…
I’m also in yellow wave 2, although I don’t think the time I’d estimated (to be read as “optimistically made up”) was in the 3:15 range - more like 3:20-25.
Training has been very stop-start since being wiped out for two months with whatever lurgy was floating around in Dec/Jan, and then I’ve done very little running since the end of Mar due to work/other - just a few sessions blowing the cobwebs off over the last week or so. I think 3:20 is still doable but if I’m being honest with myself I’d be pretty happy with sub-3:30 - first marathon for me so it’s all guesswork anyway.
That’s brilliant and yes, very inspiring
Have an amazing time next Sunday.
Welcome Chadron.
I’m off in green, hoping for c3:15 but off a negative split so we’ll probably be pretty close when the races merge.
Enjoy build up….
Welcome and good luck!
