TCS London Marathon 2025

I just played that game too. Find the person who’s in the same photo at Cutty Sark and then Tower Bridge. I got it. :+1:

given that @awildt is from ‘OOP Narth, is female and there’s a lady in both photos wearing a green Lymm Runners vest, I think that would be a good guess.

Solid detective work there!

@funkin great report thank you and well done on the time, done me by 2 mins :rage: (although my GFA is 3:20).

No idea how you recall such detail in your reports I only end up with snippets to work with after!

You thought of sneaking an Autumn one in before GFA deadline to give yourself a bigger buffer?

And an (ex)triathlete so a high likelihood of wearing a cap or visor

Kept the rain off well on the day!

Found you

As I think my blog said I don’t think I have a big enough buffer right now and I’m kinda ok with that. I’ve no plans to do a marathon to try and “guarantee” a place for next year, however I was thinking about maybe doing a marathon at goodwood motor circuit in December. This is just up the road from me, cheap-ish and very low key, If I decide to do it I’d plan to try out a negative split approach (and be very disciplined about it) and also possible increase my fueling slightly. If that all worked out then I’d potential be GFA for April 2025.

I’m liking the idea of putting in some decent marathon training but having said that my right knee is f00ked right now and I’ve jogged five miles total since London. Going to rest it fully for a bit and also probably get a referral for some physio,

Is the ballot result out next week? I thought it was Oct :man_shrugging:

Thursday 6th July apparently so couple of weeks. I always thought it was stupid it took until October to tell everyone

Wasn’t the October date driven by the fact that they needed to work out how many places were left for the ballot after taking into consideration GFA, deferrals and charity places? I think before entries went online the closing date for paper entries was much later too.

I guess with staggered starts they’ve increased capacity for the race.

It makes much more sense to inform people of their places in July. It avoids the cycle of getting a ballot place in October, starting training in January and getting injured in February . New runners have much longer to build up to it.

my first entry attempt was paper and Im sure it was ~August it had to be in

True the earlier and slower build the better, but getting a ballot place in October and starting training in October would also have helped rather than Jan 1st being a miracle day :person_shrugging:

Fully expect my millionth rejection. Typically though I will probably get in this time right when the last thing I feel like training for is a marathon

Very true, but non-runners entering the marathon don’t seem to think like that :man_shrugging:.

Someone I know with no running history got a charity place, started training late, got injured and ended up walking most of it on the day. He still enjoyed the experience on the day, so he got another charity place the next year, hoping to do it again “properly”.

“That’s great! You’ll have another year of running in your legs”

Err no, he admitted that he hadn’t run at all in the 6 months after the marathon, so ended up repeating the cycle of getting injured in training and walking on the day

Cavet - I’m in a bad mood…

Yeah this type of thing does irritate me, everyone should have the opportunity, but at least put some thought into it. Its also a run, not a walk. And the other bit is this is why alot of people give up running or it has a bad rep because of very poor training practices. Run too hard, trying to beat their time around there regular route each week, feel completely broken after there one run, get injured, hate it. Repeat.
