I’m sure there are loads of really interesting and healthy foods out there, but I’m too lazy. I do like a falafel though, and those ‘Buddha bowls’ that some places do - basically a veggie or vegan bowl of very filling veg & pulses, rice etc.
A very pleasing 76.5kg after a rest day. Getting closer to the 75 target!
67.3kg. Moving in the right direction as marathon day approaches, 5 weeks on sunday. This is day 12 of 50 off the booze. Now touching on the longest period of abstinence of my adult life.
Training above 50 MPW but I’m eating for Britain. Trying to maintain the right balance as the goal shouldn’t really be weight loss at this stage but if I can hit 66kg by taper that’s hopefully 2-3 minutes free speed.
Marathon/Guinness rewards day can’t come soon enough.
Just to give the thread a bit of a different slant, I’m up 5kg in 8 weeks and happy. Dropped to 71kg for IMUK and was hovering around 73 afterwards but a recent holiday with friends wedding and still no proper training has helped me add on the few extra kg.
Likely to maintain that and add some strength over winter.
Nice work - is it hard to shed the weight from a swimmers build? You guys tend to be big units, muscle wise.
My 31" suit trousers have started to pinch just as my stint in Northants is coming to an end.
I’ve never really tried. I swam competitively at 73kg, quit 2012. Spent 5 years stable weight around 75-77kg, with general fun exercise and healthy eating.
Ironman this year some weight dropped off but focus was more on fuelling training and staying strong than trying to get lighter at any cost, but of course glad to lose some with hills in mind. I do wonder how people decide what their so called racing weight is
I’m a lot smaller muscle wise than most good 400m swimmers were, but yes I suspect most weight loss this year was from the shoulders. I’m only 5’11 so to be 75kg must have some muscle still considering low body fat.
Cheers!
My running racing weight was found through trial and error; quicker over the short stuff under 71kg, but ran 80 minutes at 80kg this year.
For ironman I aimed to be under 70kg, but I’m sure cycling suffered. I’ve felt way stronger on the bike than ever this year and pulled off a decent run at 77kg back at the 113.
I reckon 75kg might be decent for me.
But the aesthetics of 70kg, though
Yeah I feel this thread, and following elite cycling, has potential to trick into thinking lighter the better. Discover peak via trial and error but only race long distance once or twice a year in A race mode so hard to judge.
Obviously most of us shouldn’t care enough anyway and pretty sure we’d hit a natural weight that’s close enough if training and eating well.
That’s not a criticism of this thread either. I weigh myself regularly (roughly weekly) and enjoy this thread for progress and accountability.
Just taking the chance to discuss a slightly separate issue.
100.7kg, down from 101.1kg last week. Smaller reduction than I’d like but after 2kg last week I was expecting a lesser week as that seemed too big a drop. Still going in right direction.
There is/was certainly a school of thought amongst Pro triathletes (particularly the Germans in the late 90s like Hellriegel) that they would take ‘a little more weight’ into races like Roth for strength on the bike, and only shed it for Kona, where the heat meant it was more of a penalty.
I haven’t weighed myself for months. Clothes still fit as normal…
into my 3rd week of weigh in. down another 2.5lbs 18st 1.5 to 17st 13. thats 9lbs total.
onwards…although travelling for work this week…
99.3kg (from 100.7 last week) Lightest I’ve been for 2 years and starting to notice it when running. I’m still sh1t but being sh1t feels a bit easier
15’8" in old money so next target is 14’X" which will take a few more weeks but I’m not finding it a struggle and feeling quite motivated at the moment.
17st 13 down to 17st 12 this week. -1lb. Not bad considering i was travelling in Germany for work and spent Saturday drowning my sorrows watching Bath get smashed by the Chiefs…
97.8kg (from 99.3 last week)
Using My Fitness Pal as a bit of an extra check, I’ve been @800-1000 calories under MFP figures most weekdays and a bit looser at weekends (about level with MFP) but weight is coming off OK. I think MFP is too generous with exercise allowances so have to be under it’s figures most of the time.
Keep saying it but its time to get started. Got overtaken on my commute this morning and it WASN’T an e-bike.
Stayed the same this week. Not going to complain had a terrible week last week food wise and barely any exercise.
17st 12lbs.
Back on it this week.
For quite a few years now, my January weigh in has been depressing.
Standing just 5’ 7” (ish) / 1.7m, I give you…
01/01/16 – 13 st 5.8 lbs / 85.2 kg
01/01/17 – 14 st 2.0 lbs / 89.8 kg
01/01/18 – 14 st 6.4 lbs / 91.8 kg
01/01/19 – 14 st 8.6 lbs / 92.8 kg
There was a direct correlation between a decline in exercise and an increase in weight.
Way back in 2008, my training stats were pretty good (for me):
S – 219 km
B – 4,694 km
R – 850 km
But, by 2017, they had been reduced to this sorry sight:
S – 4 km
B – 0 km
R – 59 km
Thankfully, after a large number of false stats, I am finally getting back into regular training.
I’ve even managed to get back in the pool with my old swimming club in the last few weeks.
So, my numbers for Jan-Sep.19 now look like this:
S – 6 km
B – 1,631 km
R – 271 km
Still a long way to go before I get anywhere near to my old numbers, but a solid step in the right direction.
However, all of the above is just a long-winded introduction to today’s weigh in.
01/10/19 – 12 st 12.8 lbs / 82.0 kg
I know that I’ve only just sneaked under 13 stone, but it is great to see a 12 at the start.
Cheers, Paul.
That’s great @Paul_L Good to have you popping back here!
I’ve started using one of those Boditrax monitors which they have at my gym. While my weight hasn’t dropped much, it’s showing less body fat percentage, which is nice. Will use it a bit more regularly to see if I’m trending downwards.
I switch between Metric & Imperial, 11st something might seem a long way off but kg’s starting with a 7 is much closer. When you achieve that back to imperial and 11st won’t be that far, so another benchmark
