The 496 Challenge

Nice one @Adam :+1:t3:
I managed my 4km today … then found out …

I’m wanted on-site three days this month.
Two consecutive. I arrive at 0749, drop bag off, run, shower, work by 0930 :+1:t3::white_check_mark:

The last Wednesday is gonna be tricky
I was banking on the dog walks to ramp it up, but no chance of that now.

He who dares, Rodney, he who dares

Day four ticked off and I almost found a window where I didn’t get saturated.

Flooded roads and pavements everywhere!

Another day where I definitely wouldn’t have gone out!

but no report yet of if you managed your 4km today?

He’s done nearly 8km today so overachieving really

haha just the usual hobby-jogging about a little, it is definitely not a 496 challenge which sounds like the stuff of madness (but good luck to you etc ). Just happens that there is some overlap in the first few days

Run #5 done :white_check_mark:

Plodding round is my mantra

that’s brave/dumb. one way trip to hating running and getting an injury. or a bad case of shinsplints at the very least! there must be some multi sport equivalent you can dream up? - that’s kinder on the shins etc

We shall see …

Anyways, 6km done in -2°.
<5:00/km too :kissing_heart:

Good skills…

I’m simply running >=5k a day for Jan. Which given that every run has been in the dark and pissing rain thus far I already consider an achievement. I can’t imagine completing this 496 challenge once daily runs reach >20k… my hips would start aching. Chapeau if you get that far. The pyramid to mid month sounds more reasonable to me.

Day six done with today’s parkrun.

Re risk of injury: I’m not going to blindly keep ploughing on with the challenge if I pick-up any sort of niggle/pain.

I’m enjoying the challenge of getting out everyday and doing something. I’m not fussed about pace, I’ll walk some of it if I have to, no ego here. I’m also probably not goi to finish it. But it’ll be fun to see how far I can go

You start hitting 100 mile weeks from the first 20km jog :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Ouch.

Like @Adam, I’ll stop at the first niggle.
I’m in the office on 31st, so that’s looking unlikely

Maybe you should do the 496, but without matching the specific days, ie you need one 31km day etc., but it doesn’t matter which day in the month, reduces it to really quite manageable a challenge, from something quite silly.

Its not a bad shout Jim.

Could also continue the challenge if a break or rest day or two are needed, just pick up where you left off

That’s part of it, too.
The Random Draw :white_check_mark:

That’s not random, that’s gaming the challenge to your advantage.

True dat. True true.

But “the rules” don’t say how many times I can pull one out at random :joy::rofl::sweat_smile:

Also, like I said before, I do intend to walk some of it. As that’s fine. And split runs.

So 2 x 4km weekday dog walks = 8km.
We do a shorter morning weekend walk (2km) then an afternoon walk of around 8-14km.

So I’m planning on some non-running days :+1:t3::white_check_mark:

On the Strava club, some people have skipped days already due to “work” - like you’re too busy to walk 5km total. All day :joy::joy::joy:
