Body is actually feeling reasonably good right now after a few weeks of turkey, rest and beer. Let’s see how long that lasts with this madness . Like others, if I start to see knee or hip pain I’m out faster than you can say “armchair”. Also, if I get bored of running.
I have some 55 years of endurance under my belt…even though it has tailed off in recent years…so, all I had to do was find the time, head out the door, and go steady…
Setting myself up to fail here though. Left it late today and after eating out and not feeling at all like running. Still, got out there and plodded my way through.
Even a well balanced 500km month is something most of us don’t get anywhere near and feels stupid enough, unless planing to walk a very large proportion, or have a hugely reassuring history of being injury-resilient.
Get to day 10, get a sore knee, sit out the rest of the month. Something like that
But if by day 10 and am not yet showing signs of breaking, will give it more thought.
Frustratingly the rubberised and shaded running track I use near the stadium has been closed off for some footy thing “Aisan Cup” which leaves a choice of tarmac or sand.
So I looked at last january, and making some assumptions about distances based on steps for the parts I don’t track with GPS - I managed ~23 of the 31 days - to get the rest I would need to add less than an hours walking to a few days, and one a week where I need to add ~10km, an evening run and a walk to the shops?
Starting from nothing, it’s a tough challenge, but starting from a normal level of activity, I’m not so sure, walking half of it is well within reasonable, which makes the rest pretty possible.
Maybe people just walk a lot less than I think.
I am over 500km for a well balanced month without any effort or risk of injury, min 300 running, min 200 walking, it’s just getting the bigger days too that I’m missing on.
I’m still managing my humble >=5km a day. But it’s icy as fcuk up here and I took a tumble on Sat (should have put some Yaktrax on). Luckily it’s just a graze. If I get through this short run everyday in Jan challenge then I may close it out with a 30k run up and down my nearest Munro Mt Keen.
On working days where I don’t get out to exercise and am not on pickup/dropoff duty for the girls I can struggle to hit 2k in a day. My last 7 days, inc. today (which I only just ‘salvaged’ by being 5mins earlier than anticipated meaning I could park the car then walk to the school).
Well, you all inspired me to get out there and get it done, despite finishing work late, and even a few snow flurries. Only my 4th run of the year, but probably wouldn’t have bothered without the chatter on here.
