nice use of the word “just”
It was weird, on both the trains I was on this week, I was the only dressed in running gear, yet you’re clearly showing how normal an activity is for the run commute with train.
Well … it arrives at 0709 and the connection to the Arena or city isn’t until 0737 (28mins)
It’s then either 8km from the arena (at 0747 start running immediately) or 6.4km from the city (0749 plus adding 4 minutes to get out, get shouted at on the tannoy if you run)
So both those options get me to office at 0830 ish.
Running from Nuneaton?
Again, tiny station, running almost immediately.
0710, 17km = 0835 at the office
@JibberJim - I usually take the direct train and cycle the 6.4km to work, as I can do that in jeans and a jumper nice and easy on the lovely kerbed off, separated bike lanes. Theyre superb
Also, @fruit_thief - I wondered if Prince Andrew used his Tesco Clubcard points or a supermarket coupon to pay for his Pizza Express meal.
Afraid you have stumped me with the Prince Andrew reference … is this your capybara equivalent?
also…
isn’t it “Theyr” ?
plodded out 13km round a park this morning. Really wasn’t feeling it today - opposite of yesterday when felt great & probably went a bit too hard. Still, ticked another one off I guess. Very slow.
edit: @Poet , the weathers not looking too good next week here either
NOICE
Are you intending on running it all?
Being a part timer, I guess you can make extra time for stretching and mobility?
I’ve really got to start getting on top of that
I have to rotate my leg 90° to put my socks on these days, instead of just pulling up
Anyways, parkrun done. 4km dog walk now to finish
Well yes and no, in that yes I’m intending to run not walk. But no in that am definitely not intending to carry on with this malarkey too much longer. “When the fun stops…”
There’s the injury risk, but also I get bored easily on longer runs… just looked back at Strava runs for 2023 using the search tool with duration criteria like you did. Hardly any over 1 hour. Might have to get some Bluetooth headphones or something, there’s only so many large rodent hygiene issues to ponder after all. Also I have had a problem with acid reflux and nausea in second hour before, not had this yet this month so far though
At the moment this mad thing feels like a helpful training stimulus because it’s something new, have never tried anything like it before. Did strung a few 70km weeks together last spring, got a sore knee, but I have a hunch that might have been a twisting injury from shoe slipping out of bike pedal accelerating out of traffic lights, maybe made worse by tumble turns. Rather than a primary running injury.
Re stretching and mobility - I don’t do any, but have a hunch that cycling to work maybe helps there a bit . Also don’t know if it’s the same for everyone, but I’m a bit of a sleeper- average over 9 hours per night- have a theory that this might somehow help prevent injury ???
Tomorrow will be the day I’ll have to decide… until today it’s been just a normal month, but I don’t think I often run 14km on a sunday, I would probably still make the 14km run and walk combined, but even that wouldn’t be absolutely guaranteed without thinking about it as sunday is often a shorter run 'cos I don’t get out until the afternoon.
No stretching and mobility here either, and my sleep is way less than 9 hours!
didn’t realise you were still in @JibberJim
do you track somewhere? think I’m following you on Strava, but has been a bit quiet there (unless I’m stalking a random wrong Jim which is quite possible)
Sunday was my original aim. Getting up and going for 15km on the Monday will take some motivation I think
Jim never posts his stuff apart from the occasional dump
(Of data, get your mind out of the gutter)
Nope stopped uploading anywhere public ages ago, but I’m only still in, 'cos I would’ve still been in regardless - unless illness or snow or something had cut my normal runs short.
There was a chance the 11/12th wouldn’t’ve been pure run as 10km is the norm (when not ill, which I actually was all through december and beginning of jan) but I also normally walk at least 3km every day.
Some evidence:
Ah cool, great to know there are at least 3 other inmates
Conditions look ideal. Nice frosty mornings watching the sunrise.
Certainly makes the easier to see
I barely ran last year.
Managed to average 8km 40mins per week.
But with masses of inactivity.
So this is helping me get out.
Breathing is better, too.
Ok, 2nd week of this SHEER FOLLY done.
Stats for Jan so far:
Days: 14
Runs: 15
Distance covered: 119.7km
Time spent running: 10 hours 20 minutes
Average Pace: 5 minutes 9 seconds per Km
Average HR: 137 bpm (if you believe Garmin wrist HRM, which I don’t)
Average strides per minute: 173
Strides: 106593
Average stride length: 112cm
Average sleep: 9 hours and 8 minutes.
Today at 14km was the first run that felt quite long. The crazy thing about this challenge is that although almost half the month is done, less than a quarter of the distance has been covered. It reminds me of that old story about grains of rice on a chessboard. The thought that every single run from now on would START with what I just did this morning, plus then add a repeat the last 2 weeks all over, is frankly not a very welcome one.
Body still feels OK but I just don’t know where I want to go with this next. Haven’t decided if I’m going to try for 15km tomorrow or not… will sleep on it.
PS bumped into my neighbour yesterday, a local guy. He had a look of concern in his eye. “I have seen you running a lot”. “Mmm yeah, I mumbled, 496 sausagefest”. “You should be careful, will get a big heart, happened to my brother.” … we have been warned
Do you live next door to MarkieR?
9.12km jog at 5:10/km
4.99km walk at 10:37/km
That’s it for today
Might Zwift later. Might not
