The over 50's

You probably age-up at the start of the year, not in your birthday, just like triathlon

Currently feel like I’m ageing up every morning.

Did mine about a month ago. I was wondering about what they must have received in the post as there were multiple warnings about not trying to fill the container. :poop:

On the subject of health checks I meant to reply to prostate screening comments fruity made on the pro-cycling thread!

A friend had the blood test and was advised to avoid cycling for a couple of days beforehand to avoid the risk of a false positive and it kind of reminded me about it.

It was another ailment my father had so given those comments I do wonder if I should approach the GP as it doesn’t sound like it is a routine screening.

Completely appreciate Chris’ comments about the subject as well which doesn’t help with the procrastination

Eurgh, life was a lot simpler in my 20’s

The wife and I did before Christmas, 50 and 52. We sent samples, all good.

As someone who’s worked on the receiving end of samples, don’t fill the container.

It’s over 50% bacteria by weight, so when the container gets warm they release gas and you end up with a situation like opening a shaken can of coke… but shittier. If it’s only 1/2 full the gas is just released. I got pretty good at spotting the ones that are very bubbly and being prepared.

a friend 55ish has just requested one at his GP and said something like anyone over 50 can request a test but alot of GP’s dont advertise it (because of the accuracy ?), so if you want one then I’m sure you can get one booked at your GP.

My wife runs a bowel cancer screening service. That’s right that the age range is being extended downwards. I’m 53 and just old enough not to have been sent the sample collection kit but if I was a bit younger I’d have got one by now. Polyps (my understanding are these are little blobby things of various sorts) seem to be quite common when they do a colonoscopy after a positive test. Cancers are rare. Polyps do develop into cancers - not sure if that’s always or just often - so it’s well worth having them found and removed.
The bowel prep is (allegedly) a fair bit less grim than it used to be, but all things are relative.
My wife is mystified that anyone would try to fill the pot.

Made me think of the legendary Agent Picolax thread!

I assume people think you need a lot to work with. :grimacing:

What’s going on here ?!?
I’m sure there’s some form of copyright infringement ?! ( I’m not really sure what that is to be honest !)

I’ll be informing my lawyer and hope the cash is in the post ?!

Suggest send your lawyer to Y Bannau, tell him to take an umbrella :grinning:

Old man clinic blood test last week
Results today.
For some reason a little nervous.
No bother
All clear, heart stuff, diabetes, cancer markers etc.
she did the blood pressure reading and said “ do you feel ok? Your hr is 47!” ( I think several of us have had similar incidents )
No breakfast ( yet)
No coffee.
Etc.

Chatted about health training etc, just need the poo on a stick test … nice !

Similar last week for me on the annual MOT

A referral to a cardiologist is available if I want it - last referral was made about 15 years ago due to suspected left ventricular hypertrophy - the consultant said it was because I had “an athlete’s heart” (nicest thing anyone has ever said to me).

Might take it up just to be on the safe side

I only had a simple blood test / blood pressure, that was it really, she just raised her eyebrows when she saw the reading.

“ Amy history of heart attacks in males under 60 in your family ?”
There isn’t

I would take the appointment to in that situation, I’m sure everything will be ok, but always best to check
