The over 50's

Very proud of him. Some bonkers results. The winner of the M60 category ran a 36:xx !

It’s only a number…… ish!

Crazy that, he looks happy which is more important than anything a watch can tell us.

I was thinking about this 14 day thing a bit more. One thing I’ve noticed on 7 days is that on rest days, I tend to next to nothing and definitely feel worse for it the next day.

Mentally it seems like I have to force a rest day and switch but I ache so much. maybe 14 days will allow more flow in that the expanded timeframe will mean doing something ‘soft’ rather than zero?

Swimming can help if you can motivate yourself to get in the pool! I also find walking helps a bit.

I’m taking LO to athletics on a Tues night, it runs from 5.30 -6.45 and is next to the new leisure ctr. Going to see if I can use that time for a swim. :crossed_fingers:

I have done a similar thing with my daughter. When I took her to gymnastics and the same with her tennis I would go to the gym for 50 mins of her 60 minute sessions.

I’ve been doing a strength and mobility programme. If you ignore the fact that I’m now injured and can’t train it’s been really good! :slightly_smiling_face:

I think mobility is over egged unless you lack ROM somewhere. I am not flexible and never have been but can touch my toes, have good ROM over most of my body, the only restricted area is my thoracic spine but I would say that is structural not a ‘lack of flexibility’ but I doubt I could ever do box splits.

I do now :grinning:

But yes, I’ve been struggling with ROM on a few joints related to other stuff…

A bloke I was running with for a bit on the trail race today but was doing the 25 mile version said he was 64! He came second in that race and not far behind the winner who was quite a bit younger. It wasn’t a particularly stacked field but crikey he was a fit bloke for his age.

Pretty sure he’s more of a cyclist as his legs were pretty lean and more like cyclists as well as some of the kit he was wearing.

One of those natural talents but obviously puts the training in, although he probably does about 300K of cycling per week!

Someone in our running club has just turned 50 as well and put in 2 16:30 5K’s in recent weeks :astonished:

Apparently, the government are going to try and get retired 50+'s back into work, or hope they now need the money that will force them back into work.

Maybe they are missing the point about why so many decided to retire maybe 10-15 years early. Massively increased stress in some professional jobs and the huge increases in bureaucracy, paperwork and league tables. Or working in sweatshop warehouses with long arduous shifts.

If they’ve done their sums right I can’t see any of the people I know that retired recently wanting to go back to any kind of stressful lifestyle.

I suspect the government are also a bit miffed about the lack of NI they are getting off them!

How?

By stopping pensions?

HMG can go and fuck right off if they want me to come out of retirement to work. Enjoying my time too much.

I think they are actually a bit clueless about how to do it and are starting with a nice friendly, you don’t fancy working again do you? (that’s a semi serious answer BTW!)

I actually think that they’re hoping some got their sums wrong and might need some money.

On paper I can go now.

But … 2 ish more years will make sure I’m ok till I’m really old.

I wouldn’t come back to the job I do now, if I got really bored I might do a part time job.

This govt is making some strange choices

Likewise. I do what I do now for enjoyment, in fact when I work in the Lakes it sometimes costs me money when I take into account diesel and food. There’s zero chance I’d go back to working.

Quite…… you can’t make it all about the pursuit of profit and a never ending squeeze on work loads without consequence.
